Wow, I assumed Lawing would be next in line for DC.
I can only imagine luring Raekwon, and Garrett in that would be fantastic... It would definitely throw it in Meyers face and Saban since they both badly want McMillian.
Promoting TRob would hasten Lawing's departure. Isn't he young to be a DC? Then again, he's done a lot with the secondary since he's been there.
I just hate hearing about the possibility of another defensive coordinators leaving. I don't think we appreciate the stability we had on the staff and how that led to consistent recruiting under Strong.
Totally agree with the inconsistency with coordinators that'd why I think for a couple years there it was a mess... No stability whatsoever
It's pretty obvious that Muschamp is the real DC. Not sure how responsibilities get divided up but I don't think this would have a big impact on our defense. Losing our offensive coordinators is a different story.
I actually dont think that would be a monumental loss either now that Joker is the WR coach.
Lawing is also one of those career assistants. We cannot lose Travaris Robinson that would really hurt the program from a recruiting stand point.
Would make sense from a recruiting standpoint. Muschamp is our DC.
I did kind of assume a "your next" pitch was part of how we snagged Lawing, but who knows maybe he doesn't want to be a DC.
This sounds more like a rumor than reality.
There are a lot of rumors on why Lawing left. I dont think he was promised the DC job. I dont think he even wants it, he has been a Dline coach for 20 years.
Durkin has put in his time as a Gator, so I expect to get 3-4 years out of him at DC. If TRob is ready, after that, good for him, but I have ZERO concerns about Coach Champ being able to find a former head coach willing to take the DC job.
Heck, we got Joker to take a position coach job. I don't think enough was said about how huge that is.
I got the impression, just from the original quote, that another coaching staff has put this in the Kid's head [about Durkin leaving] trying to recruit against us and when asked about it Mus had a game plan that satisfied this recruit. I can't imaging Mus even raising this topic without being asked first.
Everything I heard from South Carolina circles following our hire of him insinuated this was not the case. He just wanted to leave the state for personal reasons, and as one of the highest profile DL coaches in the country, he could name his destination. I also like to think Spurrier did us a solid and pointed him our way. /fantasyland
