Jury is still out, but he does have one thing he never had at UF: a fairly effective QB. One troubling sign to me is that he already fired an OC in less than two years on the job: sounds a lot like what went on at UF.
SC's admin feels bolstered by the bowl win over Michigan's $9 million coach. I would rather be an SC fan with Muschamp at the help than a Mich fan with Harbaugh there. Well, at least in terms of production for the money.
This board was almost unanimous in believing Mac was a good coach and Champ was a bad one. Where is Mac coaching? Who will hire him? Champ is going to eventually fail at USCe? We'll see. No one will own up to their opinions if he succeeds but we'll see.
He's pretty much the ideal coach for a school like South Carolina. He can recruit at a high level, consistently churns out good-to-great defenses and runs a clean program. Yeah, he's not cut out for a top-level job, but at a second-tier SEC job, you could do a hell of a lot worse (ask Tennessee). If he can consistently win 7-9 games a year, the fans there won't care about his lack of offense anywhere near the way they did here.
By most accounts he is a good person and folk enjoy being around him, despite his sideline antics. That being said I don’t see any evidence that he is s better than average head coach. Good for him and USCe that he has won 15 games in two years and he has almost as much money as the Kennedy’s. I am happy for him and happy he is no longer the HC at UF. He lost to Ga Southern...enough said!
Dude has figured out the game, and it has nothing to do with football. Work for a few years, then just ride it out until they force you out. Collect checks. Rinse, repeat.
He was a control freak at UF. His wanting to control the offense was his downfall as he wasn't good at it. That lead to him not being able to recruit top offensive players. Add to that his bad luck on the injury front and it was a matter of time till he was fired at UF.
The USC football program and Lumpy are perfect for each other...each being mediocre and without high-level expectations.
