I just don't get how Murphy was a 2-star QB coming out of high school. Anyone?
Watch his video on YouTube. He displays great athleticism but his team didn't throw it much from what I could tell. He looks better than 2 star athletic talent though.
Some people had him as a 3 star. He didn't go to camps and played against terrible competition in high school. There is nothing wrong with being a 3 star player that is an eventual starter. Evaluation is not a perfect science.
Maybe because talent evaluation isn't a perfect science? There are plenty of NFL players that were rated 2 stars or lower coming out of high school. It's not the norm, but it's not rare...
Happens all the time.
A lot of guys come from smaller schools, JD for example, get very highly rated, so it is a little puzzling. He does look like a man amongst boys in his HS vids.
JD competition was much better he also camped and won the elite 11
he grew 3 inches on campus
2-3 star players usually contribute in their junior to senior year if they are good.
My freshman year had the same effect on me.
Aaron Rodgers got zero Division-I scholarship offers coming out of HS.
Last time I looked JD's school was in the largest or second largest classification in Florida. Did it move up after he left?
Besides, as AZ pointed out JD beat out 10 other QBs for the Elite 11 MVP. But then we all know..."practice player."
JD was a deservedly highly-ranked player. He's got NFL talent but just never adjusted to the speed of the game like he could/should have. It happens.
Chris Doering.....walk on....SEC Leader in career TD Rec.
Brandon James was a 2-star as well, I believe.
Works both ways......Steve Shipp
Just goes to show you how flawed the star rating system is. The Gators have truly experienced the downside of 5 star studs. Do you remember how DuBose was supposed to be the next Percy Harvin? TM is a classic example of how the guys who assign stars get totally influenced by who is recruiting a particular player.
Recruiting/evaluating still not an exact science, never will be as long as their are humans involved.
Scout had him listed at a 2 star 148th WR.
