I was glad to see 3 Billboards do well last night because I thought it was the best movie of the year. I am definitely interested in seeing Shape of Water. Will probably also watch The Disaster Artist, I, Tonya and The Post.

Apparently I haven't watched a lot of the Golden Globe nominees over the past 4 years.

    8 of the 20 for Best Comedy/Musical
5 of the 20 for Best Drama

Still not sure how Fences wasn't nominated. I thought it was the best movie of the year and they nominated both Denzel and Viola for their performances.

Not much love here for Ladybird. Saw a lot of the top films but that was my favorite of the year. It did well at the Globes last night and I expect it to do better at the Oscars. Look for Laurie Metcalf to win best supporting actress. Greta Gerwig has a decent shot best original screenplay. I've read the shooting script. It's very good.

Finally saw Dunkirk this weekend. I really like that movie. Tension from start to finish. If you're expecting something like "Saving Private Ryan" you're going to be disappointed. There was probably more dialog in 10 minutes of that movie than the entirety of Dunkirk.

I generally stay away from war films, mostly because I think there is a lot of fabrication and political aspects of it. That is why I go for the ones that seem like an entertaining movie.

I did enjoy Saving Private Ryan and I really liked Inglourius Basterds. That could be because of the great cast in both. Also have really been enjoying Tarantino lately (Hateful Eight, Django and Inglourious Basterds)

What are your other favorite war themed movies?

I liked Saving Private Ryan, Inglorious Bastards, Fury - pretty much every big budget war movie, but there aren't a lot I've watched more than once. On that list would be Full Metal Jacket, Lawerence of Arabia, The Killing Fields, and if it counts, Master and Commander. I'm tempted to put Apocalypse Now in there, but I don't like the ending, some amazing scenes in that movie though. I'll usually get sucked into watching Apocalypse Now and then bail before the end.

That was a horrible movie. But Allison Williams is very hot.

What was horrible about it? I thought the ending could have been better, but the lead up was funny, suspenseful, entertaining.

I thought it was cheesy as hell. Let me preface it by saying I'm not a fan of horror movies or sci fi movies so I was biased going into it. The racial overtones were so blatant that it was almost laughable.

The mother stirs the tea or coffee and the dude faints? Really? He's hypnotized by that? I thought that was ridiculously dumb.

The kid takes a photo of the guy that's been missing for 6 months and the flash makes him have a "seizure" or whatever that was. That was stupid too.

The family's goal was to lure mostly black guys to their basement to extract their eyes or brains or whatever....i checked out by that time.

I'm getting angry thinking about that movie again!! Lol Thanks Art!!

Edit: the only decent part was the TSA guy. When he told detectives it's quite possible that he's better trained than they are...was funny and his character was a positive.

    You are welcome ;)

I am a big fan of Key and Peele so I probably found their humor entertaining even though I see your points.

We obviously saw those scenes differently and that is what is great about movies.

I think he is making a follow up (not sequel) to the movie. I am looking forward to it. I suspect you will pass.

Here is a well known funny skit from Key and Peele.

    Lol.

Yes I will pass. At the end of the movie didn't they have something on the screen about a follow-up? I thought I remembered seeing that.

Anyway, I'm the first to admit I like alot of cheesy, goofy comedy/comedians but I've never liked Key and Peele.

However, I thought Key did a nice job in another good 2017 movie "Win It All" written by and starring Jake Johnson (Drinking Buddies-another good film)

Key plays Johnson's gambling sponsor and played it well.

I agree, that is a great thing about movies. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

Just saw a pretty solid, gritty prison/crime drama called "Shot Caller". This one went really went under the radar, but I'd recommend. Kind of like "Breaking Bad" in 2 hours.

Finally saw Wonder Woman. I was surprised how much I liked it. Thought Chris Pine was really good.

Get Out was excellent, easily in the top 10 this year, if not the top five.

I would've voted for Obama for the 3rd time if I could.

Art, what did the GF think about it? Is she still your gf? Lol
