I thought I would start a thread for a discussion of movies for this year. It looks like it is going to be a great year for movies.

We went to see Logan last weekend. Fantastic movie and a great way for Hugh Jackman to say goodbye to a role he has played for 17 years. He really becomes Logan. Patrick Stewart is back as Charles Xavier. I have always liked him and still love watching him as Captain Picard. I forgot the young girl's name but she was phenomenal as X-23. Just a very good movie. Our kids rank it as the second best superhero movie ever, behind only The Dark Knight.

Just got back from Logan and I equally thought it was great. Gruesome but great.

I was a bit perturbed when this one vanished into the woodwork on Oscar night. It's a very educational and socially relevant film.

We saw this one about a month ago, great film, moving content and very well done. Watching it really did a great job of putting the viewer in the shoes of the women.

Watched Get Out for the 2nd time last night. Written and directed by Jordan Peele. A fresh approach to the the psychological thriller, made better by the 2nd viewing(missed some stuff with the 1st), should definitely be watched in a packed theater the crowd response is worth it.

Just saw Kong: Skull Island with 13 year old boys. We all liked it. Explosions, giant monsters, and humor was not detracted by a predictable story of stereotyped characters. Special effects were crazy.

Questions like this are pretty much the basis for the book freakonomics. Basically whenever the incentive outweighs the possibility of repercussions people will do it.

We saw that when it came out and loved it. We go to a lot of movies and that was the one last year that I came out of thinking about Oscars. I thought Taraji P. Henson should have been nominated for Best Actress.

I'm looking forward to seeing "Going in Style" with Alan Arkin, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman. The premise looks hilarious, as they team up, realizing their ages, and plot a heist.

Does anyone here listen to the How Did This Get Made podcast?

We went to see the new Kong: Skull Island. It was good. Not as good a movie as Logan but good. It is definitely not the Kong of my youth in a lot of ways. It is much more of a monster flick. Once again, the previews led us to think one thing that did not turn out to be true.
