Don't play dumb. You know exactly which 'demographics' I'm talking about... The poor AA people that vote for your messiah in droves are why many of these southern states need more government assistance. And, more to my point, it has nothing at all to do with River's crazy, unsubstantiated assumption that religion is the reason for that government need. You guys are not even amusing...

Well then you should have said race and not demographics then.

Well that would explain why Alaska, West Virginia and the Dakotas are in the top 10 for receiving more than they give. It's all those black folk.

Except that only one of those states is even remotely considered 'southern', which is what rick was saying. That, and 'many' doesnt mean 'all'.

Look Riv, if you think the south is so bad, why dont you pack your bags and hit the road already.

The entire argument over which states receive more federal funding than contribute in tax revenue is ridiculous on its face. There are many factors behind those numbers that have nothing to do with politics. Take Florida as an example. Florida has a fairly strong economy (a balanced budget even) and pumps a lot of money into the federal till. However, Florida has a very large percentage of retirees that pay little or no income tax but receive SS and Medicare benefits. Add to that, Florida is large and requires infrastructure expenditures. Throw on top of that, Florida takes in a lot of Defense Dept. spending. Or, just repeat the misguided meme that red states are beggars, non-productive, and should be punished.

Interesting the states you list are drilling and mining states.

Lots of gov't spending on infrastructure for resources--oil, gas, minerals. WV gets lots for resources, but obviously more than it's fair share for low income Appalachian population. The Dakotas get a lot for Indian Reservations...you know...where all those white folk live.

    here's your argument:
You mean the states where a vast majority of the 1% live thus skewing their tax stats to make it look like the general population give more? The 1% that pay 37% of the taxes thus...again...skewing the tax numbers to make blue states look awesome? The 1% the liberals hate except the way they pad their tax stats? Those states?

are you really saying that those states, on the religious list, or the 'welfare' states,(if you're not responding to the OP) have no cities, and those listed as less religious, have all the cities. you may need to revisit those lists. the 'blue' states mentioned, with exception to massachussetts, aren't really the 'big city' states. you'll not see new york, new jersey, california on that list.
then again, on that other list, there's georgia (atlanta) lot of 'money' there. also we see tennessee (nashville and memphis) money there too.

one of those states, on that 'most religious' states, is the only one considered remotely southern?

mississippi, louisiana, alabama, south carolina, arkansas and tennessee 'not remotely southern'?
    that's kind of mind boggling.

Not mind boggling at all if you actually read Rivs post to which I responded.

Red States are the epitome of "do as I say, not as I do", in so many categories that directly contradict their own political and social stance

To the point where they can't even honestly look in the mirror or take responsibility for their own short comings, instead blaming liberals and blacks

Fix your own house first, set an example, then people will listen

It appears that the problem is not that red states are taking while blue states are giving, the problem is that anyone dares mention it.
As for those complaining the most, my suggestion would be that if you don't want to read facts about the more religious states, don't bring up which states are most religious. Or don't read the threads.
Otherwise, I'm sorry the numbers are not what you would like them to be.

I think a significant majority of Southerners would be more than happy to get Big Government out of our lives to the greatest extent possible. The winners of the War of Northern Aggression continue to repress us and force their crappy values down our throats.

Yeah, I know. But since your post was less about "demographics" and more about a specific set of demographics, you should have said that (instead of complaining about the lack of demographics, of which there has been plenty discussion).
