Nice! I always thought he was a bit underrated when he played for us... always in Kearses' shadow, but Peterson was probably just as good, if not better than Jevon at their respective positions.

Agreed and was going to post the same thing (not to diminish Kearse). Peterson didn't look as impressive physically thus didn't garner the hype, but always seemed to be there making a play.

Agree. Mike Pete was the best LB on that team even though Kearse and Rutledge got the press. Always in great position and a great tackler.

I'm sure he (probably) doesn't need the money (although, Kearse did file for bankrupcy). I'm curious what a position like this pays. More than $50K? This is probably just a stepping stone job for him, as I'm sure he could easily land a LB coach job practically anywhere (especially in the NFL, as each team has 6 LB coaches). Seems like the staffs at colleges have doubled the last several years (the NCAA did approve the separate jobs such as player personnel positions - non coaching positions - and recruiting/non-coaching positions)....plus Saban creating the supposedly non-coaching positions of "analysts".

Mike may have been the best tackler in the last 30 years. Ahmad Black is the only other player in his league. Mike was always where he should be and always made the tackle. Heck, I think his play single-handedly saved the 98 Bama game for us (and as we all know Alachua >>> Lake Butler).

Smart player, great attitude, huge heart, great fundamentals and technique. Exactly the kind of former player I want influencing our young players. Great, great news!

I like the idea of a strength and conditioning staff. I'm sure the guy at the top is good, but I've got to wonder what's going on when we have so many injuries over a two year period. At least a few happened in the weight room.

While Kearse was a great talent most of that was all about size speed combo. Petersen on the other hand had a way higher football "IQ". Watched him play qb for Sante Fe Alachua. Recruited to UF as a safety but soon became a linebacker Mike most definitely knows all aspects of the game. Great addition.

Now we need to do what 'bama is doing and hire ten more S&C coaches to be on the sidelines coaching... err... not-coaching our players during games.

Coaches who tend to embrace former players/assistants and welcome them back to the program will inevitably do better IMO. I'm happy for this hire and will give some kudos to Muschamp for making the step.
