He could play for damn near nothing for any team since he's getting paid from the Heat. Mike pick your team.

Needs to go to a full roster and might be a waste of money? Sounds like he's made for the Nets. I'd like to see him with Lee at Golden State.

Really hope Wade and Allen stay healthy. Miller filled in as the starting 2/3 if Wade or Lebron were out. Most Heat fans appreciate the big shots in the finals, but Miller added a lot more that I don't think enough fans recognize. Excellent rebounder, great at pushing the ball, able to create his own shot. He was capable of giving Miami a lot more than he did in the regular season, there was no point in risking him being out for the finals. That shows his value, saving him for the finals.

Stupid move by Heat, I dont think they win the last 2 championships without Miller. Maybe they can get a spark somewhere else this year but they needed him the the last 2 finals.

I was really hoping to convince Elton Brand to come on board for the vet min and a ring. Think he would've been perfect. Wide body, crazy wingspan, can spot up or post, don't know why he signed with Atlanta. Guess a ring isn't that important to him.

Haslem would've been a better choice to amnesty. He wouldn't have saved as much as Miller, but he really has regressed in past years. I always used to defend him, but the Heat notoriously start games slow and find their rhythm in the second half. Haslem starts games and gets little to no minutes in second halves of games. I'm not sure that's a coincidence anymore. Unfortunately they have a greater need for bigs, so he and Joel are safe.

It's a tough break for Miami and Miller. Unfortunately, the luxury tax made it almost a no brainer. It would have cost the heat way more than Miller's worth. I think both sides are disappointed but ultimately it's a very respectful break up. Hopefully, Miller can find a team where he can get some more minutes. He is still a good all around player.

He seemed like he loved being on the Heat.

Orlando should have kept him years ago...I hope they bring him back.

Haslem wasn't eligible for amnesty, and very unlikely Riley would have amnestied the guy who has been called the heart and soul of the team.

Exactly. That's the goal of the new CBA--to force teams to choose between a deep roster and a superstar core. By design they want teams to opt for the former, but the Heat aren't going to give up the latter.

It'd be a great full circle story and for Magic/Gator fans, but why would he sign for the veteran's minimum on a team that's going to lose 55+ games? It really wouldn't make sense for the Magic either since he might help them win a few games and cost them ping pong balls.

May not be his choice though. I'm pretty sure when a player is released through amnesty teams can claim him in order from worst to first.

Yeah but then they have to pay his contract (I think they can bid for only a portion of it) and a team that's rebuilding/tanking would be stupid to pick up with so much money owed.

Can he return to the Heat if he's unclaimed? :ninja:

(as in: sign a new contract with the Heat for league minimum while the Heat still also pays his old salary, but not the penalty?)

No. He can't re-sign with the Heat or be acquired by them in a trade until his contract is up.

Not sure exactly how it works, but pretty sure the Heat will foot most of bill wherever he plays for remainder of his original K. At least in stories about Artest and Knicks, seems like Lakers will be picking up most of it.
Otherwise, amnesty pretty much keeps guys from playing at all.

I hope he ends up on a team that already has another Gator. Miller+Williams, Miller+Haslem, Miller+Gator = championship.

In a classy move the Heat took out a page add in the Herald thanking Miller for his time with the Heat. Unlike the marlins and the dolphins the Heat is a first class organization.
