Halfway thru back nine, UF leads at -5 with Bama 2nd at -2

    5th place is 4 over

Just like the womens tourney, rebond from a bad SEC to lead the regionals on day one.
Entire team is playing well except Tomlinson, who is +4.

Very strong start. In the clubhouse at -2, 6 shots up on the next closest team at the moment.

Go Gators! Great 1st day. Gotta keep playing. LSU has got to feel pretty bad about themselves; 15 over and second to last, in LA.

Other teams dropped back late, so the Gators will have a 10 shot lead on Alabama and USA going into round 2.

Barring an implosion in the next 2 days, they should advance comfortably.

As one who finds it tough to follow golf (I remember their awesome comeback from their 2001 championship...wow, has it really been that long?), what's the likelihood of this team advancing and their chances to win the whole thing this year?

    Go GATORS!

Very good chance to advance, especially after a strong day like this.

Very very slim chance of winning it all. Not much depth and a terribly inconsistent team all spring. Vogel is the best player, but hasn't has a great season. McCumber is the solid steady guy. After that you never know what you will get.
Next year is a little scary, losing 3 seniors including Vogel and McCumber and have not recruited well.
Lucky we had Vogel transfer in or this really would have been a lean last 2 years.

Just curious. How could Florida (land of 1,000 golf courses and 365 day golf, home of half the world's pro golfers, biggest/baddest University in the land) "not recruit well" in golf?

Great question. Buddy Alexander is clearly one of the best coaches in the history of the college game, don't think anyone would argue that point. But there seems to be a drop in the "energy" of the program lately. I have absolutely no inside info on the program, so am totally guessing....but I would like to see a high powered assisstant that could really recruit brought in. Give UF the best of both worlds, a veteran and renonwed coach plus someody out there scouting and developing relationships.

The proximity of the golf course/practice facility is great, but due to physical limitations, not the greatest quality of facilities. Buddy is not the problem and its not a new problem.

But there has been a lot of money pumped into upgrades over the last decade. There are space limitations, but I don't think the teaching/training area lack much.
