Ed Manning was an hired as an assistant coach at Kansas.
Wade Houston was hired as the head coach at UT.
Press Maravich was hired as the head coach at LSU.

I wonder if any of these had anything to do with their sons?

Mitch Mustain's HS coach was hired as an assistant at Arkansas right before he committed.

...of course, that HS coach was Gus Malzahn ...who is Mitch Mustain again?

Norman Cook (player) and Duncan Reid (HS coach) for those that are old and remember Illinois HS basketball.

    And went to Kansas.

    Did I mention Kansas again?

High schools here in Texas do it all the time.

If the particulars you state are all correct, it sounds fair. However, that doesn't make it smart. Turning over the reins of a major D-1 program to a high school coach almost always does a face plant.

Doesn't pass the smell test but it is in-bounds.

I guess that they could pass a rule where a coach who has a son playing the same sport has to be on the staff a minimum of 2 years before the son is eligible to receive a scholarship at that school or else is not eligible there. Not enough people who fit the profile to radically change the competitive balance so I can't see an effort to pass anything.

Actually, unless they are hired as coaches or promoters (like Press Maravich), which almost always involves high skill/ability levels from the parents, you usually don't see coaches doing any that would appear so

    OBVIOUSLY SHADY!

By far the most frequent method is the one that Cali used for Brandon Knight, by getting a Wealthy Booster to hire his poor mother for something like $125,000 per year. Now, had Billy Donovan's Gator Boosters been able to offer such a deal to Chris Walker's Guardian, the Gators might have Walker playing here. Alternatively, since both Walker and his Guardian appear to be Perniciously Honorable people, that might have turned him and her away to go elsewhere.

Offering parents high salaried jobs is a lure and nothing more. Frequently fish bite at appealing lures, but sometimes they don't.

Definitely shady. Billy would never have one of his sons on his team.

    Umm, nevermind.

Did you actually read the article to understand what this particular situation is about? The father is a real bona fide coach who has won a state title, etc, etc. Maybe this is just to get the kids there, but it is apples to oranges as it relates to the Brandon Knight thing.

I didn't think anything of it. I assumed Pastner needed someone over 21 on staff to buy him liquor.
