WORD ... I have always interpreted the 1st Qtr defensive situation as a consequence of our being an very aggressive defense and the inevitable need to adjust to what the opponent is doing on the field ... this was a consistent trait of our dominant defense last year and I have no real problem with it this year ... hence, the reason I said it would be "nice" but it is not necessary, at all ...

Yes, really. Maybe they are getting 5 yards per rush because teams can't load the box against Mattenberger and his nearly 70% completion percentage at over 11 ypc.

I'm with you, and this is a interesting point. Perhaps one of the reasons that our defense is so good once the game gets going is that they play this style at the beginning. Either way, I'm thankful that we've got them.

Actually, Mettenbooger is averaging 11.07 per attempt not per completion.

May be not necessary, but getting down a couple of scores in Baton Rouge early could be the kiss of death, especially with our ball control offense. I'd rather not find out if we can overcome. I'd rather start the game with a pick 6 and play down hill from there. I suspect most can sign on to that. :joecool:

The key is to shut down their running game (like last year) and force Mettenberger into second and third and long situations.

This is a game that I had us as losing. I feel a little better now than I did two weeks ago, but still think its probably a little to steep a climb at this point.

LSU will put up some points against us ,they will score 4 tds against our D so our O really needs to continue to improve and score more points....

Agree our offense needs to continue to improve, but I doubt LSU scores four TDs unless we have a bad day with turn overs.

IIRC Mecklinberger actually started playing well near the end of last season and it looks like it's carried over to this year. Classic case of a player taking time to develop.

Did he? He had a crummy game against Clemson, an OK game against Arkansas, a terrible game against Ole Miss and a good game against Mississippi State.

Granted, an improvement over his *dismal* three game stretch against UF, USC and TAMU, but nothing to write home about.

As for this year, the defenses he's played have been among the worst in the country.

Yeah, I'm gonna stick with my belief that Alex Collins is the best back we'll face all year. Jeremy Hill has benefited from facing teams that cannot tackle to save their life

Todd Gurley is better than Matt Jones, and Alex Collins is better than all of them. He is the best running back in the SEC

This is one game I thought we could snag because of talent. LSU lost a ton on defense, and I don't think they're all that great. Then again, playing in Death Valley is kind of an equalizer.

I'm just going to try and enjoy this one. Losing doesn't mean no Atlanta, so that will help in the case that we lose.

It is something silly like 11 sec games in a row we haven't given up more than 20 points. Included in that span is A&M, Georgia, LSU, Missu, Vandy and USC. I'd like that tradition to continue, so 4 TDs by LSU seems to be a stretch.

Some of you guys obviously haven't seen LSU play this year, our new OC, Cam Cameron, has done wonders this year with Mett and the rest of the O.

We are going to score on Florida's D. The question is really how many points can an inexperienced Gator QB score in his first big road game.

I think the Florida O needs to score at least 28 to have a chance at the upset.

There's no way your offense is putting up 27 on our defense, though. There's the rub. So unless your defense can score some points, I wouldn't bank on 28 being a magic number.
