IMHO this increases the chances that Lane won't be redshirted.
Don't count on the Canes defense being like last year.

Since the spring Matt has been pegged as the one who would start. I say allow him to slowly get back in the mix while allowing the other backs to step it up and have a healthy Matt back in the mid-season for our brutal SEC schedule. Should give the other backs quality snaps in real game situations and see who separates themselves. Wishing him the best in his recovery!

Muschamp's presser did not come across anything like the notes posted above. He essentially said there was no timetable, it could be August 19th or it could be the open week, but it all depends on how his body recovers. He gave no indication of pessimism whatsoever.

It's almost as if Avatar is less concerned with conveying an accurate portrait of a given situation and more with furthering the elaborate performance art piece he's putting together with every post.

My guess is he has an undisclosed suspension of one game against Toledo. It's as good of a guess as anything else I've read.

It could be Muschamp is laying low with what he knows is a national championship caliber team. I like this guess even better.

I doubt seriously Matt will miss any games from the gastro illness. The weight he lost was more from dehydration than anything else. That weight goes back on fairly quickly once the illness is over.

The truth shall set you free. I told you in an earlier post that needs time to get back to where he was. He had bulked to a solid, scary 230 lbs. He lost a lot of weight and it takes time to gain it back. All I said.

I for one would be shocked if Matt Jones ever walks again. Muschamp implied in his latest press conference that Jones was receiving the last rites as he spoke with the press, which was news, as I didn't even know Matt was Catholic.

    Matt had viral meningitis, right?

Brain inflammation... bad headaches, fever, nausea? As I understand. Not sure how long he was down, but he probably didn't eat much if at all during that time frame. Hopefully Matt's condition was recognized and treated quickly, but I understand in severe cases that don't get treated quickly (hydration and fever/pain control), recovery can take a good deal of time and in rare cases people can end up with permanent problems, they never recover from (cognitive losses).

I am pretty positive they won't want him doing anything that has potential to overheat him until they are 100% confident he has recovered. They might treat him similarly to someone who has had a significant concussion and run series of cognitive tests on him, as well as checking for dizziness and headaches. Recuperation is probably similar too... very limited visual stimulation - no reading, TV, video games, etc. Progression from light exercise as they verify he shows no symptoms.

I am not a doctor, but my wife is, and that's my take based on what I've picked up from her. This is a non-trivial illness they need to be careful with, and that's why there is no specific timetable for his return.

I don't know for a fact what it was, but I thought viral meningitis was reported.

Only place I've seen it reported or talked about meningitis is on here...nobody from the coaching staff has mentioned the specifics on what infection it actually is..rumors spread like wildfire whether they are accurate or not

The infection was bad enough that he was hospitalized so it must have been pretty serious.

The Sentinel writer used the word prognosis, not Muschamp. I believe the original question was about Jones's status, to which Muschamp responded "iffy" because in fact they have no clue when he will be cleared since it isn't an injury with a timetable. He said as early as August 19th, as late as the bye week, but admitted he was just guessing.
