I hope you're right.
He was 5'9" and about 208 when he showed up on campus last month. Probably lost weight for track season. Not sleeping on him, just don't think he's likely to be in the three man rotation. Nothing wrong with a redshirt year. Even Fred Taylor redshirted his freshman year.
Jones outplayed the other two in the spring. I didn't see it because it wasn't on TV, but the coaches seem to think he's the answer. I did see him block well as a true freshman. He has more big play potential and very good speed for his size. I didn't say Taylor was faster, because he's not. Brown is, but he hasn't turned it into consistent big plays. I thought Mack looked quite good running inside last year, as has Kelvin Taylor throughout his high school career. Jones may have turned the corner with his inside running, but it wasn't evident during the season.
They vaccinate for viral meningitis - I think it is now required in Florida high schools and prior to starting classes at public universities. I doubt that would be it.
I don't think there is a vaccine for viral meningitis. They vaccinate against measels and mumps which can lead to viral meningitis, but not against viral meningitis itself.
That said, it does some like a fairly weird thing for a person of his age and health to get although maybe that is what Champ is referring to when he says its 'uncharted waters.'
Bryan Holt @Bryan_Holt 5m
#Florida RB Matt Jones has lost 8-10 pounds, per Muschamp. Gators hope to get him active next week. He's back in the building.
That's good news.
Yep I would think another week and he would be back on the field. I wonder if the fans will even come in this thread. People seem to be more worried about JFF than the Gators
Johnny F-in Football. Read the long ESPN feature on him from a couple of weeks back and you'll get the reference.
What is there to say really? The guy is sick. We want him back. The end, right?
I'd love to read any more news about it but there's not much out there right now. Everything about it is "indefinite". Thanks for posting that one update though.
Get well, kid.
I just looked. They vaccinate for meningococcal meningitis, and that is strongly encouraged and advised for students going to college. However, it is not required. Sorry for my confusion, just remembering what our son needed a few years ago. We did the vaccination.
I also learned today that meningococcal meningitis is bacterial. That is the deadly, scary one. I have a friend whose daughter boarded a plane in LA seemingly fine coming to Tampa. They did an emergency landing for her in Houston (I think) and she died shortly thereafter. 28, family, etc.
Viral isn't generally considered to be a huge health threat though it can feel awful and recovery may take some time.
This seems worth knowing to me:
Again, sorry for my mistake earlier.
Fred came out of the muck of Glades Central to score 8 TD's on ~900 yds. as a TRUE freshman in 1994.
Not looking good for Matt
Thomas Goldkamp @Goldkamp247 (8-12-13 8:44am)
Muschamp said they've got to be very careful with Matt Jones and how they bring him back so they don't have a "relapse of the situation."
I wouldn't say things are not looking good. It seems they are just being careful. Matt being out and about seems like a good sign to me. He was at the scrimmage
In addition to the weight and strength loss, I imagine they are worried about exposure to any kind of heat exhaustion that would elevate the temperature in his brain. I'm sure he needs time to fully recover before pushing that envelope.
He is doing cardio. No rush.
Just peak him in 2 weeks.
Saves him from injuries & dings also.
Matt doesn't need to rush back. I am confident that Mack & KT can carry the load until he is 100%...
We won't need him for Toledo and shouldn't need him for Miami (if their D is as bad as advertised). I just hope hes ready to go when we start playing the SEC.
