@ZachAbolverdi: #Gators DB/WR Marqui Hawkins tells me he's transferring from #UF to seek a better opportunity for his playing career and be closer to home.

@ZachAbolverdi: Marqui Hawkins told me the move to safety this spring factored into his decision to transfer and he wants to play WR at his next school.

According to 247Sports National Recruiting Insider Ryan Bartow, Florida safetyMarqui Hawkins will leave the Gators program and has been given a full release to transfer to the school of his choosing. UF compliance has given Hawkins permission to talk with other schools and he will officially be granted his release in writing on Tuesday. Already, Nebraska has verbally offered Hawkins, who is expected to transition to safety at his next stop. The 6-foot-1, 213-pound Hawkins redshirted this past season at Florida and moved from receiver this spring. From Columbus (Ga.) Carver, Hawkins was the No. 40 overall prospect in the state of Georgia for the 2013 cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Anyone could use a WR with that size; guess either could not catch or run routes.

Just more talent ahead of him..it feels really funny to say that about our receiving corp given the last three years but we are on the verge of being stacked at the wr position.

    Myakka, I sure hope so!

It is a shame to see him leave. Was looking forward to his size at the S position.

That write up is odd. It says; he wants to play WR at his next stop....then says he'll transition into Safety. Then says he wants to play closer to home (in Georgia) yet he's been offered by Nebraska?

Too bad, I hate to see kids leave, but if he was killing it, he'd be playing wide receiver

How do you get here, I mean it's hopeful but we have absolutely no idea how good Hawkins is, none.

Agreed. I have no idea how good he is or some of our other WRs can be, but for a team so anemic on offense I hate to see ANY player leave because they couldn't play WR.

I picked up on that too...could have to do with Matt jones possibly playing slot..I could see this guy going to South Carolina or Clemson because it seems they're short of wide receivers.

I got there by seeing d rob, Chris Thompson, debose which roper has been quoted "is salivating to get him on the field", Alvin Bailey, goolsby, and Taylor on the flat, and showers. These guys showed out all spring...never heard coaches say a word about Hawkins doing some nice things.

Hmmm, my comment was on you saying we are loaded at wr because Hawkins was transferring...as I said I hope you are correct but Hawkins may have stone hands and spring is well..spring.

It's always good and bad, good that we cleared dead wood and bad that we didn't judge talent better.

So does that mean every team doesn't judge talent good because transfers happen to all teams.
