(no, not the former Georgia WR)

I don't know why this wasn't a bigger story when it happened, but apparently back in May a man was run over while being pursued for a seatbelt violation (I didn't see that in a link, but that's what they mentioned on the news this morning).

Why would the police officer not face criminal charges? Here is the video:

For those that don't care to watch it, it shows a patrol car driving through someone's property and garden to kill Marlon Brown (not really sure what other intention there could have been besides physical harm).

Terrible story and I believe that cop will be charged and convicted.

Boy that happened so fast, when I read the description all I could think was of course the cop should face criminal charges but now I don't know. I mean maybe procedure should be changed, ie you don't chase a suspect off-road in a vehicle.

Looks like he fell, and the cop couldnt react in time. But it does seem odd that you would drive off road to pursue someone who was on foot at that point.

Not just pursue, but practically run down. Brown is approaching woods and a chain link fence and you can hear the cruiser's engine rev for the last ~50'+ before Brown falls.

Yeah that's what I'd want to know. If so, that should absolutely be changed.

He wasnt wearing a seatbelt. I mean, what's a few $1000 in property damage and throwing out procedure to enforce an important law like that? Won't someone please think of the children!

Thrown out of the force and then prosecuted and sued as a private citizen. Are policemen not aware of the term measured response? On the other hand if he was wanted for murder... Even then, pursue him on foot. Oh, I forgot, policemen are so freaking out of shape or conversely so pumped up by lifting weights, they could not possibly chase a suspect on foot.
