Since being the head coach at MSU he has had a lot of success considering it is MSU in the Big 10.

He played at South Carolina, but his coaching career has kept him in Big 10 country. He makes $1.8mil, which is low by today's coaching standards.

I am surprised his name doesn't come up much in coaching vacancies. He did a great job last night.

I'm always surprised too. He's accomplished more there than Saban did.

$1.8 million? I hope he's looking into some adjustment to that.

Not to belittle what he has done, but OSU's secondary sucked. When Indiana and Michigan can shred your secondary, you have a major problem.

One knock on Dantonio is that he has had heart issues in the past. However, winning at Michigan State is difficult. They are in direct competition with Michigan, OSU and Notre Dame, all higher profile programs with better resources, and East Lansing is a dump of a city. The fact that he has Sparty going to the Rose Bowl after making it to the first BIG championship game in 2011 shows how good of a coach he is.

The last successful coach that MSU had was Nick Saban. I wouldn't be surprised if Dantonio headed for a warmer climate soon, but this health issues may prevent that.

I raised him as one of my top 3 choices back in October. DAntonio has built and won at two programs. He may be pricier after last night.
Another poster mentioned that Cincinnati fans hated him and were glad when MSU took him. Frankly, Cinci was nothing before him. He built that program up, laying the foundation for success that Kelly and Jones continued (no knock on those two good coaches). He did much the same for MSU.

He didn't do anything at Cincy that Rick Minter didn't do before him, he produced bad offenses and close losses, to say he built that program is simply not true.

He appears to have become a better coach at MSU, but I wouldn't want him running the Gators.

That's exactly why he isn't mentioned for other jobs. His medical condition has scared off major programs. Similar situation with Jerry Kill at Minnesota (seizure disorder).
