As someone from Brevard County (although not Palm Bay) that's a great story. Some great Gators from that area

I was at UF when James died. I remember reading it in the Alligator while eating lunch at Schlotzkys. I remember thinking, "holy s... how tragic? " I was excited he was coming to UF.

I remember a couple of years ago when Joe Cohen opened his football camp for kids, he named it after James McGriff. Nice to see these guys keeping his memory alive.

Very good story. I hope he plays that position w/ authority!

I wore #20 when I was a kid in baseball because of Mike Schmidt!

    Good story.

I remember the '98 season opener against The Citadel when UF recognized McGriff during pre-game. His family received a framed #20 jersey and got a great ovation from the crowd.

Right after that Marcus Oquendo-Johnson walked over to McGriff's mother and gave her a hug. Next thing you know the entire team did the same thing...there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
