Once we hear Obama make it all about him (he made the fall of the Berlin Wall all about him in a speech once, so surely he will with this), there will be posts.

Why haven't I taken note of it? Well over the past several years I have had it hammered in my head that since I am a white conservative male that opposes Obama that I am a racist. Also it is pointed out almost daily on this board that white privilege exists. Thus I've decided to live the stereotype and just not give a rip about blacks.

    Satisfied?

Civil rights movement wasn't only rights for African Americans.....

And why would white privilege and discussion of it drive you to "live the stereotype"?

    Its not about my satisfaction...

Its about whether you really believe in "America"

Awwwww, bil ...one step forward two steps back huh?

If its a tea party march about freedom, liberty, & America you guys get all patriotic.

Black leaders march on the same issues and it turns into "I'm ignoring it"?

    message boards have no context....

Sounded like you were saying "It has nothing to do with me...hope they have fun"

If I misinterpreted that I apologize...

Hard to believe it's been 50 years......in Nov. it'll be 50 years since JFK's assassination. In recent years I've often thought about what kind of world or country we'd have today if these men with their optimism and ideals hadn't been killed.

I have a dream today that my children will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

Seems like a lot of people have lost sight of that dream.

We'd likely be in exactly the same sad state.

    I didn't......he isn't in the 50 year club yet.

I was a kid during that decade......as an adult and observing what we see going on today in gov and politics, I do wonder what kind of world we'd have today if these men hadn't been assassinated. To speculate further, it feels like it was some kind of coup.

When you look at what these men stood for, warts and all, this nation was headed in a different direction than where we're headed today. I perceive the election of Reagan as the biggest game changer.

You don't think that the election of Nixon was more of a departure?

You might be right...the cynic in me agrees.

But think about what these men did in a short time.

You really think JFK & MLK wouldn't have had major impact on this country if they had lived to today?

    Shorter Vietnam
    Probably no POTUS Nixon
