    http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources...es-committee-adjusts-targeting-rule-defensive

    1
The committee recommended that if the instant replay official rules that a disqualification should not have occurred, and if the targeting foul is not accompanied by another personal foul, the 15-yard penalty for targeting should not be enforced.

    2
Under this rule proposal, the offense will not be allowed to snap the ball until the play clock reaches 29 seconds or less. If the offense snaps the ball before the play clock reaches 29 seconds, a 5-yard, delay-of-game penalty will be assessed. Under current rules, defensive players are not guaranteed an opportunity to substitute unless the offense substitutes first. This part of the rule will remain in place in scenarios where the play clock starts at 25 seconds.

#1 should've been a rule from the get go. Don't really care for the second one.

1st rule makes sense. 2nd rule, no so much.

I think they need to do something about these uptempo offenses and not allowing defensive linemen to sub in and out. 10 seconds seems like to much time. I know I am in the minority on this.

I have said all year if they continue to have the rules like they are you have to install an offense that can go uptempo at times. Which is probably one of the major reasons UF is going to the spread.

I think you have to adjust your team to the rules - whatever the rules are.

No huddle teams run up tempo at their own risk too... if they don't get a first down, they just put their defense back on the field with very little rest.

But teams can choose to prioritize endurance in their training in the front seven over sheer size and strength, and they should do better against uptempo offenses.

That said, if the rules committee does decide to allow teams time to sub, I agree that ten seconds is too long; five seconds should be enough.

My problem is I think we are getting away from football and turning it into a different sport. I was thinking 7 seconds. But that is just a guess it sounds like they did some research on the issue but I would assume not enough.

If you guys actually watch football (I know you do) this is what really happens. Teams hurry up to the line of scrimmage so other teams cant sub then they take some time before they actually snap the ball. I can see where Gus Malzan could be upset about this but most teams are not snapping the football before 10 sec runs off. They are just rushing to the line to prevent substitutions.

    True.

But my answer would be that teams need to adjust, as the rules allow for quick snaps (or just quickly getting to the line) and always have as far as I can remember. There's always an answer... without changing the rules just because some coaches don't adjust as well as others, or don't want to adjust.

And these comments in the spirit of conversation... not trying to argue with you your first day back.

    Glad to have you back.

I am not "back" just stopping by for the day.

Sometimes the rules need to change in order to do what is best for the game. Having DL play a bunch of snaps in a row is not what is best for the game IMO. The way teams are doing it is disingenuous in the first place. We have teams literally hurrying up to the line then sitting there for 20 seconds before they snap the ball.
