The now annual matchup in Orlando at the tennis center Women play well and take the doubles point in solid fashion Men battled, won doubles easily at 1 but lost close matches at 2 and 3. FSU made the shots when they needed to and UF simply didn't Men are off to a poor start in singles, women playing fairly solidly (Williams in the singles linup and doesn't look good)
Kim, Jin, Nirundorn and Endgren getting handled in their first sets, Nate in a tight one Emily, Dudney, Lopez cruising in theirs...Williams not so much, Briggs in a tight one
Kim down a set and a break Jin got bageled in 1st set but up 5-2 in 2nd Gailis sloppy and loses 1st 5-7 Briggs at 5-5
Men are getting demolished....FSU controlling play on most courts it's 2-0 and about to be 4-0. Enndgren loses 3 and 3, FSU 3-0. Ganesan one game from losing UF has won only one set in singles Briggs fights back for a marathon first set tiebreak win Lopez was up 6-0 4-1 and then just plays awfully and it's now 5-6 in 2nd. Shes a frshman but that doesn't excuse some poor effort
Lopez loses her 2nd set Gailis is down a set and down 0-4 Emily down a break in 2nd To say UF is lackluster would be an understatement
Gailis loses 9 straight games and her match....finishing with a double fault that barely even made it to the net. Ugly Emily fought off several set points to keep 2nd set alive Ganesan fought off some match points to stay alive Nirundorn forces a third
Lopez down 0-4 in 3rd....not exactly showing much fight. Her and Gailis have some thinking to do Williams down 3-4 in second, down a set Emily gets the W, it wasn't pretty a lot of the time but had to have it Briggs up 5-0 in the decider
Williams loses 3 and 3.....surprised Spee didn't play in that slot with Dahlstrom injured Lopez and Gailis just showed no mental toughness. Very disappointing Briggs her usual tough self....wraps up the match for UF. Hope Dahlstrom is back soon
Let the doubles slip out of our hands and it was all down hill from there. Next weekend a trip to Austin to take on a very though Texas team. Contract required we play them there but personally I would have liked it if we told them, well you know what! Kids have to grow up fast.
Showed some grit in the second sets, but got pushed around way too much IMO. Nirundorn seems more suited to 6....and everyone we put at 6 is losing anyway so maybe sacrifice at 5. Was critical of Johnson but we still need him in the lineup, just too much for 4 freshmen to be successful
Gatorzone write up indicates that Gailis and Emily were misnamed on the coverage last night......with Emily getting blitzed in her second set and Gailis winning. That would make me feel better given Emily seems to be battling arm injury. The UF coverage of both men and women thus far has been abysmal so not sure who to trust lol. The writeups for both teams have been incomplete in match coverage or flat out wrong, and the live twitter posts are better at a high school jv match.
Got beat easily today y Pepperdine. If Roland has a job next year at UF I will be shocked. But of course it’s Stricklin we’re talking about though. So…..
Thought he did a pretty good job last year and was bringing them back.....returning roster pretty intact and couple of highly rated freshman. Somehow they have gotten worse. I think Dudney and Dahlstrom are battling some injury but the team overall just isn't clicking. I expected a top 8 squad with a chance to break into the top 5, they aren't remotely close to that. Super disappointing
