Could be nothing, but after watching the whole Driskel vs Brissett debacle, can't we just identify our best QBs and define the pecking order already? How much more do you need to see, I don't get it. If they're miles apart then you can easily pick one, and if they're neck-and-neck then it's not really going to make much of a difference anyhow. I gave Muschamp the benefit of the doubt the first time around but after that turned into a joke of a "competition" (even though I wanted Driskel), I'm not ecstatic to hear we're once again so undecided going into the season.

    Nah, those are valid points.

All offseason we hear about this great TE from UVA coming into our program and providing a new dimension for Jeff, only to be told in the opening presser Clay Burton is starting after a "good camp." I don't care about camps...I've seen enough mediocrity in actual games.

In addition, we get a new OC who supposedly brings some fresh concepts to a much maligned offense, only to get scoffs at the idea of putting on a show for the fans and the "We'll do what we have to do to win the game" rhetoric.

Awesome PR, staff. Way to bolster people's hopes and excitement. Maybe more cell service and fireworks will help distract the fan base from Clay Burton dropping balls.

At least the indecisiveness is about the back-up QB, not the starter! :D

lol exactly. I may have been being a little tongue-in-cheek but it was all true.
Muschamp tends to suppress everything that fans get excited about, on and off the field.

Diehard fans like to follow the transfers and recruiting but what will be the point of that if we can't get these guys on the field in a timely manner? Or if we are going to put some defensive convert, or great "camp" player, or urban meyer recruited 6th year senior who has done very little in his career in front of them while we all wonder what the other guy could be doing? Kind of renders following all that other stuff (i.e. being a die-hard fan) somewhat pointless, or fruitless, at least.

Sorry but this thread strikes me as a wee bit dramatic. Can't we wait until the game actually starts to commence to bitching? And really, you HATE Clay Burton? A little over the top, no?

No QB who thinks he has talent will hang around to be a backup, that's why all this redshirt wing wang is meaningless, the guy who doesn't start will leave.

You would like to see our 190 lb backup QB return kicks and potentially get popped by some of the SEC's biggest hitters? Because I would rather we find someone else for that job. I would like to avoid playing Skyler this year.

'Starting' could just mean ONE play.

Brissett was the starter in the first game of 2012. No reason to get freaked out over Burton vs. McGee.

Good call, I think. This is probably a reward to Burton for working hard his four years here.

I have to think McGee gets the majority of TE snaps, and other TEs probably get more than Burton as the season progresses.

I bet Saban doesn't do this: say its an open competition all spring and fall practice then in the first game give one player 1 series and the other player all of the rest of the snaps while neither does anything to separate themselves and then wind up giving that second guy the starting job based on pretty much nothing, apparently.

It's Tues of game week. Saban still hasn't named a starter as they continue to compete for the spot. It happens.

Didn't the same thing happen with AJ McCarron and Phillip Sims? I think they even split time the first game. So, in fact Saban did that before and with his starter, not his backups.

    so:
You would have lost that bet.

swampbabe, please don't be offended by this (although you prob should be)...

A woman is telling a few of you that you're being dramatic!!! A woman! You! Dramatic! And she's def right... If some of you had paused for a sec before gasping at the horror of Clay being named a starter, you may have considered the possibility that we'll def have different packages and Clay might be starting as a TE while McGee is often starting as a 'B' (we'll rarely have both). Putting one in front of the other on a stupid depth chart means nothing as both may be 'starters'.

I think the biggest news right now is that the severity of Maye's strain is going to put a true freshman on the field early as the other cb in a nickel. HS strains have a super high reinjury rate and we might be seeing a true audition for the other starting cb (as Poole would be inside a lot). But wait...Tabor is behind VH3 on the depth chart which, like the commandments, is unbreakable so now he can never start on the other side!!! Nooooo....

Big difference in situations, with driskel - brissett it was who will start, this time around its who will be the back up. Not nearly as important because as much as I am excited to see both, I hope we don't HAVE to play either. Driskel's health is our biggest key.
