There is a thread on Swamp Gas about what to wear to early afternoon games.

Yes that's right, guys in a sports forum are giddily chatting with each other about what outfit they're wearing to the game. :slapper: NTTIAWWT.

ANYway, the subject of cargo shorts came up in that thread, and it was mentioned that they are widely considered to be "out of style" at this point.

As a resident of South Beach where I am at least a witness to all the latest fashion trends, if not necessarily a participant, I can confirm that cargo shorts are no longer considered fashionable.

    But I say, WHO CARES??

As was noted by a poster in the aforementioned Gamewear Fashion Thread on Swamp Gas, go to any public place anywhere and you will still find lots of guys rocking their cargo shorts...because they're just so damn functional.

Let's face it - "fashion" is a concept forced on us by clothing retailers who need us to keep buying new clothes. I have no regard for the people who run that industry OR their vapid slaves, the trend-obsessed fashionistas who enforce their masters' whimsical edicts by pointing and snickering: "Ewwww! Cargo pockets!?! 2003 called, it wants its shorts back!"

F the Fashion Police! Viva los shorts de cargo! I have a closet full of them and am not yet ready to retire them to the Shorts Hall of Fame so they can join the jean shorts and the Ocean Pacific corduroy walking shorts in the nostalgic "Shorts of Yesteryear" display. Who's with me?

Why can't we talk about Yao Ming instead? Could you imagine him in cargo shorts?

As long as those knee high white socks dont come back in style Im ok.

My wife hates the cargo shorts, says the pockets are always wrinkled (like I care). Cargo shorts may be out, but they beat seeing middle aged guys trying to look fashionable walking around in those silky shorts the kids wear. That's not a good visual.

I wear em. Don't care if they are fashionable. I find most other types of non-athletic shorts too short. I'm 6'4" and don't wish to grace everyone with my white thighs.

It's comfortable, well made, and you don't need no stinking tie. Viva la Revolution!

(or maybe time changes things, just saying).

Lincoln---you are so correct. Just curious though--have you ever visited Swamp Gas, especially during the off season when the 'Uniform threads' get started?? We've got some who post in there that are apparently more concerned about how the team is up to par with the latest, greatest in on-the-field apparel because it is 'cool'. True fashion forward fans....lol. Functionality be damned--"it looks cool" seems to be their driving mantra.

As you can tell, I find those threads absolute entertainment when so many are more concerned and more attention is given to us wearing black or wearing new colors altogether or changing logos or eliminating logos altogether--on and on and on with their ideas of how the team would improve (or should I say-look better)...lol.

Not to hijack, but the thought process applies--if something is functional and if it WORKS.....then as the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!"

Cargo shorts are ok--no matter who says they aren't.

    Same boat as you.

Most Cargo shorts fit me better than other shorts, and they are very practical.

Cargo shorts are pretty much ALL I wear lol...

I wore cargo shorts almost exclusively in the summer and then year round when I moved to Florida, until about a year ago. Then found more stylish shorts which I prefer. Not because cargo shorts are out of style, just like the look better and more comfortable.

I'm cool enough that I never got sucked into the cargo short fad to begin with. Just sayin.. If a person needs to carry that much shit in their pockets, they're homeless or need to carry less shit.

Quick cargo shorts question -- has ANYONE ever used any of the pockets other than the ones found on all shorts?

    Not me.

I am not a phone freak and I sometimes use it for carrying my phone for emergency calls. It helps to separate the important stuff (keys, change) from the other stuff.

I never saw it as a fad - more like a useful invention.

Keys are annoying. To carry as few as possible I have three separate sets. If I'm driving it has the apartment, office and car remote fob. Then there's a biking set with the apartment, bike lock and mini garage-remote fob, and a walking set that has the apartment, building and mailbox keys. Still, I find them uncomfortable in my front pants pocket and prefer securing them in a cargo pocket.

Same thing with my wallet - it's uncomfortable to sit on it in a back pocket because it is of course stuffed with mad cash. I don't want to throw my spine out of whack so that goes in a cargo pocket too. Then, the cell phone in the front pocket all by itself with nothing to scratch it, leaving the other front pocket free for receipts and change or whatever. And that's it. So, not a lot of stuff.

Plus some bars in my hood send out hot girls to hand out drink coupons. So it's good to have a pocket for those. But...could the cargo shorts be a turnoff to the handout hotties? Hmm, that's a troubling thought.

Certainly you can at least say this much for cargo shorts - Dads can wear them to Disney in lieu of the dreaded fannie pack.
