Yup. It was posted in another thread that the flip is a "big" WR. (Dont know if they mean hes a physically big receiver or a big-time WR)

This is a typical tactic on here. Sad thing is the same posters who use speculated info to discredit champ are usually the " I knew it" types when one of those recruits so easily written off originally, flips or commits to us.

Will the Mark Herndon (walk on) scholarship become available?

I don't recall how that incident started or who it started with. I got involved when AZ was calling one of our regular posters a "crybaby" and was calling other posters names. It was just childish. I looked back at the time to see if that poster had said something to deserve it and I couldn't find anything. But as you said, there may have been some history there between him and the other posters.

But there have definitely been a few posters out there over the past year or two, who made their dislike of AZ known and took every opportunity to take a jab at him.

In fairness, several of our direct competitors are loading up with 4+ star players and every little slack in their classes. If we end up filling with three or four that really just aren't, on paper, players that are likely to compete at a high level then there might be some room for criticism. I don't believe we've met our needs at several positions. That said, it should be an exciting finish if we just get a few of the big players that are out there for us.

I don't have any real insight on the matter but I would think Herndon keeps the scholarship. My understanding was that Florida believes in honoring scholarships, unlike the Bama one-year contract thing.

Walk ons are in a different boat. They know they have the scholarship for one year and could get it again if they're is room again next year. Donovan has done this with basketball walk ons.

Walk-on scholarships are a whole different agreement than scholarships guaranteed to high school seniors and junco transfers. Herndon won't be in the 5 deep in the fall if Matt's healthy. If we have 85 more critical, he won't have a scholly, and he'll be fine with that. If there's an extra, he'll be the first to get it, and deservedly so.

Edit: Demo beat me to it...

Agreed. Only way Herndon comes on scholarship is if we only sign 24. But with the recruits left out there and only 4 or so spots available I doubt he gets a scholarship.

With that being said, I've heard that morniweig (sp) will still probably transfer seeing as the spread isn't really his type of offense.

IDK guys. You make good points about the nature of scholarships awarded to walk ons.

But IMO, until Jones comes back healthy, Herndon looks like the 2nd best all purpose RB on the team to me (of the guys we know, so not counting Powell). Roper will have his own take on that of course, but I wouldn't assume Herndon loses his scholarship. That may be the fall back position Muschamp uses to cover one "over sign", but my guess is that coming out of spring there will be some players who see that they will not get playing time under Roper, and will ask for transfers, and the numbers will get taken care of.

You may well be right but I don't think you count Herndon now. I think if we over sign, it's because they already know who's likely to transfer (ie - Morningweg and maybe 1 or 2 others). My guess is that because they know they won't be back, Foley will allow those guys, who I think have to transfer this Spring, to be replaced by over signing. But there's always one or 2 guys that end up not making it back in the Fall, so my guess is that Herndon may still get awarded another scholarship in the Fall.

I think we're saying basically the same thing. There's a good chance of transfers such that the numbers this Fall will still support a scholarship being available for Herndon, even if the current count wrt "over signing" is not counting him.

Exactly. You don't hold one for Herndon, but figure there's a good chance things work out in the Fall.

I dunno, guess I'll have to parley with the other guys to get the final stamp of approval, but I'm not announcing till NSD. :D
