Maybe the talking heads don't really believe it in their hearts, but follow the script to either pander to their constituency or keep their ratings. Who is going to watch a show where everyone agrees?

If those stats are true, Eric Holder needs to talk to his sons about the dangers of going out at night where they might face the possibility of getting killed by someone who isn't white. It seems that's where there ought to be a legitimate outrage with marches against gun violence instead of this instance that had little to do with race.

Larry Elder isn't a conservative. Mostly libertarian...his one difference is the war on terror with the libertarian party.

One of the smartest men in America.

Just watched it. Wow. The ref should have stopped that fight early in the second round. Too bad for Larry's sake that only about 28 people in the US watch Piers Morgan.

watched it, Elder has good points about the statistics of the black community, but he doesn't need to use it to deflect from the case at hand

there may or may not be hypocrisy when it comes to the non outrage of black crime, education, employment, ect, but it doesn't mean one has to use it to push aside the Zimmerman case

and Elder, like many conservatives, makes it a skin color issue, rather then a socio-economic issue....violent crime statistics are similar in both black and white impoverished neighborhoods...yet nobody ever talks about poor whites

so you ask, why are there a higher percentage of blacks in poverty then whites? Is it just laziness, or is there something bigger at hand that keeps people locked into their income groups? Studies have found that there is very little upward mobility from one class to the other from what class you were born into.

while we all have access to basic education (impoverished areas are underfunded), those areas usually have a dramatic decrease in opportunity. Because if there was opportunity, the crime rates would be reflected in it. So is there something about black skin or mindset that makes one not take that challenge (statistics don't show that when all things are equal), or is it that most Americans wouldn't do the same with those kind of odds facing them?

one of the biggest disadvantages of blacks versus whites from an economic standpoint is the lack of inherited wealth. Whites have a much much longer head start when it comes to inherited wealth that can be passed down to lay the foundation for wealth accumulation.

I think most people understand that in areas of poverty there is more crime and it's blatantly obvious that it's more difficult to get out of. That's just common sense that it's easier to slip into crime when you're born into a bad situation, or that it's harder to become financially successful. However, is there a higher tendency amongst blacks than other racial groups? If so, why? Also, if you look at history and even the current climate of other countries in the world, as far I know, our country right now you have the best chance to leave behind the level you're born in, it's difficult, don't get me wrong -- but it's more possible in this country and our society than anywhere else in the world, maybe ever. What do you say to the thousands of minority members who have risen above the terrible situations they've been born into and become more? Do you just tell them they've been struck with good luck? If you asked them how they did it -- they would all mostly tell you the same thing and I don't think it would have to do with luck.

    Larry ain't a conservative.
Secondly, you have the unmitigated gall to accuse ANYONE other than liberals(and their media) making this whole thing about race?

    Sad commentary.

    thousands versus billions?

what racial groups are you comparing here in America? Blacks and Mexicans have similar statistics. Asian Americans don't generally don't come from the same background in America. The foreign ones generally come from money, or they would have been able to come here, school here, etc...

Well he did appear on Morgan's show to discuss the Zimmerman case and Jeantel which has been used by the media to manufacture a race issue. The context of his appearance was to discuss black victimization based on the manufactured race issue the Zimmerman case took on.

I love Larry Elder but thought he was a little too worked up and missed some opprotunities...

    You don't have a clue.

    * Thousands of Vietnamese came to this nation virtually penniless, but do not rob and murder. Instead, they worked 7 days a week, ensuring that their kids go to college, law school and medical school. The same can be said for Koreans and Philippinos (many thousands over the years married American servicemen, then saved their money to bring their families over);

    * Blacks and Mexicans do NOT have the same violent crime rates. Of cities with over 500,000 people, El Paso and San Antonio have among the LOWEST violent crime rates in the nation. I live in San Antonio and will tell you that the black neighborhoods are FAR, FAR more dangerous than the barrio;

    * Statistics for poor whites and poor blacks for violent crime are nowhere in the same ballpark. Where did you pull THAT nonsense from? Is East Anglia University expanding from making up environmental alarmist numbers to include violent crime by race?

Don't just make things up to make your point. Resolving disputes by violent means is, and has been, more prevalent in the poor black community than in any other demographic, which is why it is constantly discussed.

Larry Elder is a Libertarian conservative and a grad of the University of Michigan's Law School, a brilliant man who is absolutely LOATHED by the black community for daring to stray from the plantation. What other racial/ethnic demographic verbally assaults one of their own with dozens of epithets?

If we really want to have an honest conversation...... we would admit the black community is about the only one to suffer this multi generational poverty. Not Jews, many of whom immigrated with nothing, not Irish, not Vietnamese nor Asian remain mired in uneducated poverty.

But no one wants to be honest about that.

The vestiges of past racism are horrible, but at some point several generations later you have to look in the mirror and be honest and say "my problems are largely my own doing"

Like I said, no one wants to have that conversation.

    Elder's main points are false:

1 By his reasoning the Boston marathon bombing ain't no big thing because only 3 people died. 9/11 should have been on page 3.

2 The race issue in this case - apart from comments on TH about 2 black teenagers who were minding their own business - isn't the likelihood of being attacked by white guys, it's the likelihood of the cops not giving a s..t.

Elder deflected? Your post is one big deflection.
Elder went to the root of the problem of the case at hand. Liberals are like the quack doctor that treats the symptoms and not the disease.

The Zimmerman case was suppose to be about about a African American 17 year old of questionable character and background who was killed by an adult part White part Latino in questionable circumstance for both people.

It was the liberal media, the pandering likes of Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton, and people who drink the victim Kool Aide that turned this case into one big social issue circus.

You must have selective memory or you are morally and intellectually dishonest to made the above statement.

How can anyone forget how quick Jackson, Sharpton, and Holder/Obama were so quick to make the the Martin death a race issue? Many conservative have been quick to point out how the Federal entitlement system has been the biggest factor in creating the social and economic conditions for troubled people who either chose to become enslaved to its adverse impacts or know of any other way of life.

What studied do you refer to? Are they the ones that support the current liberal entitlement system?

There are just way too many people (including African Americans) this country who came started from a disadvantaged position and have reached the lower middle class and all the up to the upper class.

almost anybody prepared to work hard, save diligently and live like Scrooge can become one.

    http://www.economist.com/node/654053

The LBJ entitlement system destroyed the the two parent family conception for many of improvised people. Especially for African Americans. This destruction plus the destruction of incentive and work ethic are the major inputs for not taking the challenge.

The last paragraph is pure BS and is for those who play the victim card. Today many African Americans who came from horrible conditions and have become successfully law abiding citizens. Some or many never got out of the lower class but they laid the foundation for their children to live a moral life, study in school, get part time jobs, go into the military, and get a post high school education. Some of these parents and children have become artist, professional athletes, doctors, lawyers, judges, teachers, engineers, and leaders (management and elected/appointed positions).

The disadvantaged that you describe only become a road block if you choose it to become one.

I think the root of the problem is the ideology. I heard Cornel West say that being black is not about melanin content. It is about a state of mind. Other black intellectuals have echoed West's thoughts.

Thomas Sowell, whose academic credentials dwarf West's, say that it is ideology, not some frame of mind, that drives the Civil Rights Industry. As such, ideological deviation is not tolerated, and deviants are referred to as Uncle Toms, Oreos, House naggers, and other epithets that scream "Traitor To their Race."

This is not unlike the communists who considered any and all who dissented as fascists (the all-purpose epithet that they could not define if their lives depended on it), reactionaries, bourgouisie, deviationists, Trotskyites, Bautistatas, and a host of other equally damning labels.

The Left (I never call them liberals, because they are the furthest thing from being a classical liberal) does not tolerate dissent in the ranks, and actively labels, shuns and attacks those who dare to think differently from themselves.
