Typical Putin. Kraft lets him hold it, he puts it in his pocket and walks away as the KGB agents step in. Having 0 negotiate with Putin is like sending a goldfish in to negotiate with a great white.

Possession is 9/10 of the law, after all.

So that explains why Kraft signed Tebow.

Putin may have considered it a gift. Or perhaps that is simply how things go inside the grand kleptocracy that is mother Russia.

Lesson: Don't ever let anyone, especially from Russia, hold your Super Bowl ring. Hold it for viewing but keep a safe distance. :)

Putin takes what Putin wants. A client of mine is Russian and he swears that Putin is worlds richest man by far. Once you reach a certain level of wealth in Russia, you start paying the Putin tax in addition to whatever other normal taxes are required. This is why the client keeps sending most of his earnings to invest in US businesses rather than keeping it in Russia.

If you socialize(play) with snakes, don't blame the snake when it bites you.
Herff-Jones will be happy to build Kraft another.

Not digging the fact that the Bush WH allows a foreigner to steal from an American.
It's the same old story: "too big to hassle" just like "too big too fail."
I'm saddened to hear this, assuming it's true, as it reinforces the belief that the strong get, and take, and are allowed many things unavailable to the rest of us.

Did you expect Bush to put out an APB on Putin? It's called international diplomacy, and yes, sometimes it can be unattractive. A stolen ring is a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. Better to let it go, and learn something from it about your adversary.

Imagining how different this thread would go had it been the Obama WH who made that request

No. I don't know what Bush WH did or did not do. I just said that, if true, I'm saddened that Putin got away with it. Maybe GW "looked into his eyes" and saw that he was really, really, really (3 "reallys") sorry for taking the ring. I don't know. I do know that Guliani helped clean up NYC by eliminating the small, minimal annoyances like window washers of cars and panhandlers. So, when is theft acceptable? Putin obviously believes he can do whatever he wants and will continue to do so; and, apparently, he is right.

FYI: I agree that if this happened w/ the current WH we would be up to about 300 posts on this thread.

Obama would go through Kraft's pockets to see if he had any other trinkets available. "A pocket watch? You didn't build that! I'll need this to spread the wealth around! It's my new excess profits tax. Cufflinks? A rising tide lifts all boats--gimme that! It's a carbon emissions tax on your Lear jet. It's not like you really need this!" :)

Yeah, there would be numerous calls for going to war over a Super Bowl ring. Do you believe this crap?

obsama would steal the ring from someone else and make Kraft do the dirty work of giving it to Putin.
