Hopeful event as ,eetings to begin in Washington:

AMMAN, Jordan — Israeli and Palestinian leaders have “established a basis” to resume direct peace negotiations for the first time in three years, Secretary of State John Kerry announced Friday, after an intense round of shuttle diplomacy aimed at reviving the dormant Middle East peace process

The preliminary agreement is the Obama administration’s first incremental success in efforts to convene talks since the president’s attempt to broker a deal early in his first term ended in acrimony. If negotiations develop beyond what Mr. Kerry described as an “initial” phase by chief negotiators, it would be the first face-to-face meeting of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israeli and President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority since the Arab Spring upended politics across the Middle East.

Israelis and Palestinians will never be at peace---10,000 years from now the middle east will be as unstable as it is now.

Row this is in the embryonic stages and we been here so many times it seems like watching sitcom rerun. It's hardly news worthy at this point in time.

The sands very well could be turned into glass by some Islamic country or radical faction if they ever get control of the nukes. I imagine they will strike at Israel first who will retaliate, then who knows!

Every president has tried and failed---not due to lack of effort or skill or motivation.....in past it has hurt the US credibility and prestige at times.

I am surprised at the length Kerry is going to----best chance IMO is for US to sit back and wait to be invited in my the two parties. Anything they do at US request is doomed.

Israel is just a focal point for a lot of the animosity in the ME. If they weren't there the fighting would still go on. Just look at Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, etc.

The Palestinians have been overcome by the jihadist islamists. The PLO (much like the NAACP here in the U.S.) is struggling to remain relevant.

EXACTLY, there will be a Sunni/Shiit "cleansing" war before there will ever be peace between Isreal and the Palenstinians.

What about Iran? They are a third party in all of this that gets no mention.
