I prefer to go after any 6'7"+ guys who hit 3s in their highlight films that the coaches think are good potentially enough to contribute at UF. Another sign of how good this program is is the confidence it had to go get players they coaches like regardless of what the gurus say.

Stone looks like the kind of developmental prospect that Donovan has been building much of his recent success upon.

    Well stated Insti.

Take for example, Justin Hamilton. Not one of the Top 200 kids out of high school, yet he beat out two Mickey D players (Bret Nelson and Teddy Dupay) for the starting PG spot on that 2000 Final Four Gator team by pretty early in his and Nelson's freshman season. Admittedly, Dupay did move to SG because Hamilton proved so good, and that was really his best position anyway.

Billy Donovan is an outstanding evaluator of High School talent, and he doesn't merely look at talent, but also really emphasizes a prospect's character in the selection/offer process.

Have a little faith in a proven Super Coach!

How come we keep losing Florida kids to out of state teams. Is it shoe company/shady AAU coaches?

We won't play that type of recruiting ga!e. Honestly I feel like he is a bit overrated, but that could be just me.

We only have 13 scholarships to give--you can't sign every Florida kid. When we inked Allen (a far more efficient, versatile, and explosive player than Blakeney--just watch his crossover open court dunk on him this summer for an example), it was likely that we weren't taking another small wing.

Plus, Blakeney is a far better fit at Louisville than he is at Florida. He is a high volume shooter who doesn't pass or defend terrifically well. Think a slightly more judicious Russ Smith. That works well in the extra possession game that Pitino wants to play with his pressing and transition action, but less so in our ball screen/ball movement heavy half court offense.

I had thought that once Allen choose the Gators, that Blakeney's ship offer was pretty much history. That's what you are saying rserina.

Very nice description of the whys and wherefores that associate with the historical offer.

I have a nice dull axe with a nicked up blade.

It would make quite a mess of them. ;)

I wouldn't say we pulled the offer or anything like that. We were still recruiting him, but the odds of signing him went down appreciably (and I didn't think they were that high coming into the summer anyway). I thought Grandstaff could have fit along with Allen, but it sounds as if Grandstaff's spot was in fact given to Allen.

You have summed up the maturation of Coach D's approach on O very elegantly and succinctly. Well said!

I like what we do at UF better, but you have to give Slick Rick his props. He does an amazing job. I just think BD does a more amazing job.

People complain that we keep getting out recruited for bigs. So we get 2 quality bigs in this class (from Florida) to go with a top guard in Allen, and are closing in on a third big (from Florida) in Stone (SF 6'7" 240) to close out the class, and now people are complaining that we keep losing Florida kids - which by the way just isn't true (no offense intended here). The answer is, there's no way to sign everyone when you've only got 13 total scholarships to offer.

Our 2015 class is very solid. If it turns out being Hayes, Dickerson, Stone and Allen, that class pairs extremely well with the freshman class we just signed (Chiozza, Francis, Robinson). We are recruiting extremely well and are in great shape for the future.

And supplemented with Egbunu in the transfer market. I'm feeling pretty good about things.

I'd agree with the "more amazing" notion. They're both two of the best, but Pitino hasn't produced much in terms of pros while at UL. Its not because he's recruiting college-type players either. He's had a good number of highly ranked guys that just haven't panned out. I wouldn't put that all on Pitino but the more it happens the more I wonder about it.

That being said, they're putting together a nice class it appears. Could end up being his best at UL.

Egbunu will likely only play one season for us and then enter the NBA draft. He is a total freak at nearly 7'0" 265 with great athleticism, and will likely be a lottery pick after the 2015-16 season.

Certainly speaks to the immense amount of talent produced in the state of Florida.
