    I think SOS let the DCs do whatever they thought best as long as it was working. When it stopped working, he'd sit in in the meetings and have a conversation. He still does it like that, from what I can see. After UGa, he made it clear the defense was going to need to change.

    I think your point about the SOS teams is right on ... We were missing something on those teams related to on field talent and/or leadership on offense. See Meyer's 2010 team as well.

    There are too many pages now for me to read any of this, but the OP did make one mistake. Saban was the coach at LSU in 2003, not Miles.

    Also, we were not SEC champs in 99. I'm pretty sure that was Bama.

    Tuberville had been at Auburn since '99 before his championship in '04 also.

    edit: I see where OP said SEC west champ in year 2 for Tommy. I guess I didn't get the gist of the whole argument because I never remember or care about a division championship, I just remember the overall champ. The division is just the means to get to the title game.

    Miles did win the west in year one, getting beat by UGA in the SECCG in 2005.
