Yes, the tourney is a strange animal and yes anything can happen. But I think it is perfectly reasonable to EXPECT to be a serious contender for the national championship.

These types of seasons don't come along too often.....when you know your team is a favorite. So let's keep the enthusiasm in place and expect this team to perform to it's potential. The chips will fall where they may!

To win the NCAA tournament you need to be both good and lucky. The better you are the less luck you need. With Chris Walker now eligible the amount of luck required for the Gators to win it all has decreased, but it is still far from zero.

There are lots of good teams out there that can pull surprises. Just think back to how dominant the 1990-91 UNLV team was and they didn't win it all. Larry Johnson, Greg Anthony, Elmore Spencer, Stacey Augmon, George Ackles made one hell of a team.

though not enough to beat Christian Laettner, Bobby Hurley, Grant Hill, Brian Davis, that other Hill, and Cherokee Parks.

If the "expectation control freak, fun police, this is what everyone should think" shoe fits you, I suggest wearing it proudly instead of whining about it.

Since you put your posting style into play, generally, your condescending and repetitious "most posters don't have a clue" schtick, actually quenches the opportunity for intelligent discussion. But most folks just don't have the nads to tell you.

    So do carry on.

Besides talent and luck, basketball is a game of streaks, runs, subtleness and referees.
    Not many guarantees.

At this point, I think Elite 8 is a reasonable expectation looking at how we're playing and our roster getting deeper with CW added in.

Beyond that, our health, match ups in the tourney and luck will all come in to play.

Creighton could knock anybody out of the tourney in any given game if they gets on a roll. Syracuse' zone probably scares everyone in the country except for that team.

    Bombs away!

Expecting to be a contender? Sure.

    Expecting to win? No.

But come on man, talking about expectations and what we hope happens down the road is half the fun. No one is questioning anyone's knowledge. It's OK to get excited about this team's potential. It's sports for goodness sake. It's harmless.

    No biggie.

Yes, that Duke team had talent but they were young. The UNLV team had talent and they were very experienced. I would think that UNLV that year would have beaten Duke in a best of seven series pretty easily, but that isn't The Dance.

I am very excited about this team's potential. VERY. I just might have to start thinking about visiting my younger brother some time soon. He lives in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.
