Since we are about to celebrate the birth of our Savior I figured I would fire up an abortion thread...

So I noticed a link that was liked by a friend of a maddow clip asking a congressman how he knows what is best for a woman (paraphrased) wrt the abortion issue.

This pretty much sums it up while addressing one of the reasons people murder their child.

$50 million in a wrongful BIRTH settlement?!?!?!

I would be speechless as well if trying to figure out how one could consider the decision to kill their baby whether it be the mother or pressure from the father unless the mothers life was in jeopardy in which case they with the help of family would have to figure out the answer to possibly the toughest possible situation one might face on this precious earth...

To think that child is in the care of people that prefer to have it killed.

We will be judged as a society one day.

Imagine the fact that we kill our unborn at an alarming rate
for every 1000 black babies born there are another 500 killed in an abortion- black women are 13% of the population and account for 30% of the abortions and yet this is somehow a fat white lawyers fault?

Using the phrase "wrongful birth" is inflammatory and in some situations, not accurate. This reads more like mal-practice.

It's a very personal, individual choice to decide what to do in the event of carrying a severely disabled child.

Indeed, we are judged by how we treat the most vulnerable in our society......yet we cut services to these kinds of children because, outside of the issue of aborting such children, they generate little attention and have no voice.

and how does this affect you?

did you know any of these people?
did you offer to adopt their unwanted child?
did you lose anything because of it?

What convoluted thinking. So the only vulnerable & defenseless people that we speak up for are the ones we know or that affect us in some way? It that's the case, this society is not long for this world.

I've recruited dozens to be foster and/or adoptive parents. I will hopefully do the same in the not-so-distant future.

    Nice thread hijack BTW, 96.

no hijack, just asked a question. Funny though coming from the king of hijacking. Everything you post comes back to abortion and corruption.

not convoluted at all. I take care and worry about those around me and that I know. Why should I care about those who do not affect my life and I do not know?

From what I read "wrongful birth" is accurate in this situation...

And I cannot comprehend killing my child because of a birth defect. The fact some can is mind boggling to me...

Yes we will. We just awarded a couple $50 million since they would have preferred to kill their child if they had found out their child was more "vulnerable" than most!

You may feel that way......others may not because of personal, private reasons or what they feel is the best for their disabled child. They should not have that right removed or be called murderers because they don't feel as you do. In this case, this baby is severely handicapped which will require life long medical care and potentially a pre-mature death. When parents are informed on the medical issues their child will suffer, early death and the struggles their child will endure, the financial and emotional toll, they have the right to make the best decision for themselves and their baby.

It's one of those deals where unless you've been in this situation............

These parents were awarded $50 million for mal-practice. Essentially, they were denied valuable information pertaining to their baby because of a mistake by medical personnel.

Their parents are their voice, as it should be. Those that say they are murdering or killing their child aren't privy to the specifics of their situation.....so I object to your use of the word murder here. Its just plain wrong to denigrate parents that are facing such a dilemma when one has never walked in their shoes......or has any idea beyond the decision whether to continue the pregnancy what they will face in the future.

May I ask.....where was your voice when the state legislature severely cut the services and medical care for these children?

I have been in the situation three times. We never asked for any tests wrt whether any of our kids would be born with any birth defects because it did not matter. Killing them would not be an option!

Obviously others feel differently. And as I said...I cannot comprehend how one is willing to kill their precious child.

But hey. Killing the absolute most vulnerable speaks to our society. And it is sad!
