Glad to have Chris on board with his work ethic, but would love to have seen Dwayne Dixon back as WR's coach.

I would imagine we self-impose that on ourselves.

Hmm... this reminded me... actually, there are some people who think Muschamp should be retained if we go 7-5. Just go look at the what's our record going to be thread.

Lighten up your always too serious. That post was intended to lighten the mood and here you go back to that "6-7 8-4 9-3" "nah ah, yes huh" relax the season is near. :)

Why are you chomping at the bit to can him, Cistern? Why can you not root for the man and at least HOPE he will have a great year? If he goes 7-5 with a healthy team, then Foley will take care of business. Trust him to do that, rather than continually calling for his head...:(

Well, on the good news side of things I saw in my blinkfeed the other day that 7 of our 9 commitments are in the ESPN300 (eight 4* and one 3* at the moment).

I really feel as though naming Leak was a rash decision. Surely there is some coach out there that has done this before available.

Ok seriously stop messing with me......... No for real, that's impossible cause from what i hear around these here parts is we've been relegated to mediocrity and have been beaten into recruiting shame by UM and FSU, all while they so kindly "allow" us to fight it out with the duke's and wake forests of the cfb world for lower tier recruits. So you see its impossible that this beleaguered staff has actually 80% of its commits rated in top 300 because they went 4-8 and the world is ending. :)

Ok maybe (or maybe not) a little over the top but you get the point of some of the Crazier things that get posted

With Muschamps job on the line this year, I do not believe this was a rash decision. Chris Leake is well liked by the players as well as the other coaches. WM would not have put him in that position if he thought there was any way he would fail.

It's not the end of the world but I can tell you that the players really liked Joker to the extent that some even told me that they love him as a coach and leader.

I don't have all the details yet (the majority of the players don't either), but it was a forced resignation.

It's business as usual for the boys, lifting and running. They will continue to get better. I just hope Gator Nation stands strong behind them.

I'm still optimistic about the season and I'm ready for them to run out of the tunnel in THE SWAMP!!

Makes me feel better knowing everyone on the team is still kinda in the dark. It sucks that it was forced (and I really liked Joker from the second he was hired), but if he doesn't want to play fair I don't want him representing the Gators.

I'm glad to hear the kids are working hard, I have exceptionally high hopes for this team this year. I think we'll be very good, mark my words.

I am not sure a hiring decision that is forced on you at the worst time of year to hire an assistant can be called rash.

Not a lot out there this time of year, anyone who wasn't already under contract would probably have been no better than Leak.

I think many here are seriously underestimating Leak's capacity to learn the nuances of the game over the past 15 years. Remember, this is a guy who was taught the crebral side of the game since he was eight years old by his father, who groomed him to be a pro-style quarterback. Everyone eas amazed when he came to The Swamp to study tape before he was officially on the team.

While other players (particularly stars) lived the college life to the fullest (and some to the extreme), Leak was almost monkish in his devotion to learning the game? Remember when he said that he wouldn't even have a girlfriend until he wins a championship? What?!? The star quarterback at the University of Florida not getting involved with girls there? Every coach he had there, from Zook, Zaun and Fedora, through Meyer and Mullen, to Muschamp, Pease and Roper, gushed over his work ethic and knowledge of the game. He got bypassed by the NFL because he didn't have the physical tools, not because he didn't understand the NFL game.

If Chris got that job, it is because he EARNED it.

If you look at the list below of our coaches, it is not so uncommon to have coached a position in college that one did not play in the days when they were lacing them up. Just for those who keep mentioning that about Leak.
    • Will Muschamp - Head Coach
Played DB in college. Has coached LB and DB in college.
    • DJ Durking - Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers
Played DE and LB in college. Has coached LB, DE and Special Teams in college.
    • Coleman Hutler - Special Teams Coordinator
Played LB in college. Has coached OLB and special teams in college
    • Brad Lawig - Defensive Line
Gatorzone does not say what position he played in college. He has coached DT, DE and LB in college
    • Chris Leak - Wide Receivers
      Played QB in college.
    • Derek Lewis - Tight Ends
Played TE in college. Has also coached defensive ends in college
    • Travaris Robinson - Defensive Backs
Played DB in college. Has coached DB in only in college.
    • Kurt Roper - Offensive Coordinator and Quaterbacks
Played QB and DB in college. Has coached quarterbacks and running backs in college but mainly QBs.
    • Mike Summers - Offensive Line
Played DB in college. Has coached mainly OL in college but also has coached TE.
    • Brian White - Running Backs coach
Played QB in college. Has coached RB, WR, TE and QB in college.

This. The decision to move CL into the WR coaching position probably had much to do with the players and continuity.

Any idea what the players think of Leak?

I think it's awesome that one of our own might develop his skill here. It can't but help to bring in young talent.
