Gators head coach Will Muschamp announced the resignation of receivers coach Joker Phillips on Wednesday.

In the wake of Phillips’ departure, former Gators quarterback Chris Leak will take over as receivers coach. Leak returned to UF in May 2013 and moves from his role as an offensive graduate assistant.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity that the University of Florida and Will Muschamp provided to me and my family, but at this time I have decided to step down from my position on the UF coaching staff for personal reasons,’’ Phillips said.

Added Muschamp: “I appreciate Joker’s contributions to our program and wish him and his wife, Leslie, nothing but the best in the future.”

“I appreciate the opportunity that Coach Muschamp has given me and my family,” said Leak. “It’s an honor to be coaching at my alma mater where I have so many fond memories both on and off the field. We have a tremendous coaching staff, a great group of players and a support system in place and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

    Wow!!! Congratulations, Chris!!

(Hope I don't need to say condolences, considering the state of our WR corps the last few years...)

Sure hope Joker and his family are OK...

Time for Leak to step up. I hope he does us proud as a WR coach like he did for us as a QB.

Well.... there goes our good WR coach. Sigh, I just can't get very optimistic about next season. I can't wait for it to start, but my expectations are pretty low.

After the way Aubrey Hill left, I wonder if there's going to be allegations about improprieties in lexington.

Well... crap. Muschamp just can't seem to catch a break with his coaching staff. I wonder what kind of damage that will do on the recruiting trail?

There is never a good time for something like this, but early summer still gives the players and the new position coach plenty of time to acclimate to each other, and Leak has been around the program in some capacity for a few years anyway so the transition hopefully is a smooth one. Really happy that Chris is getting this opportunity.

He won't be better than Joker was, but hopefully he can at least be close. Joker and Roper had good chemistry, it's unfortunate that this has inexplicably happened now.
