Odd how the prevailing winds here are Jimbo is mediocre but Texas may throw tons of $ to get him? Early odd are FSU -7 1/2 and will probably go to 9 pts. I wish we had a worthy opponent in the NC game.

Maybe. All we really know is he hasn't done anything to F them up while simultaneously benefitting from one of the most horrid UF stretches ever. Winston squeaks out the fall QB battle victory and POOF!

Texas has Jimbo and Saban at the top of the list.
In fact, I doubt there is any other list.
The rumor out of Austin by way of Jax and Orlando was if Texas takes Jimbo Applewhite will come and coach with Will.
But, now that Sark is USC's new HC, I think it is Helton all the way.
Besides, Jimbo may want to keep Applewhite there to hold recruiting together until he can bolt from clowntown.

Yup. Texas can blow 4 million a year out of the water without breathing hard. That in no way solidifies Fisher's return to Tallahassee next year.

Also, similar to Brown and his situation at Texas, Fisher may not be able to sustain the success he is having after Winston leaves the program.

If Jimbo stays at F$U, I see things ending badly for the Nolies. After Winston leaves after next season, the team will fall apart, and return to underachieving. F$U will realize that they can't afford a $4+ million coach, and the taxpayers will not bail them out during hard economic times. Recruiting will return to average once a certain SEC team in the state gets a real coaching staff in place.

Once Jimbo's Noles return to earth in the post-Winston era, he might be tempted to give in to the boosters' tendency to buy players, and that won't go over too well with the NCAA. They overlooked a lot of cheating with Saint Bobby, and they let F$U off the hook when Bowden retired, but I don't think they will go easy on Jimbo.

When it was thought that Winston would be suspended I said the rest of the team had enough talent to win out in the ACC without him.

They will be better with him but they are hardly without talent at other positions.

Fisher could be the next Chizik, who wins an NC with a freak of a QB and is fired two years later. But as the coach of the only decent team in the ACC, he'll probably hang around but never reach his current heights of success.

Chizik? You guys realize Jimbo averaged over 10 wins a season as was 2-1 against UF before Winston ever played a down right? And that he has coached like 4 first round QBs? And that he can recruit as well as anyone in the country? I agree he is no coaching genius but he isn't Chizik either.

Sorry to say, but you are correct. I don't know that Fisher is great coach; but, he certainly is no one trick pony. He is good enough to succeed in the ACC and to catch lightening every now and then.

I hope Auburn exposes them, but I worry about the Auburn defense. Their offense certainly torched Mizzou, but their defense looked pretty hapless.

So is Fisher a bum leaching off his star QB or is he so far and away the best coach in CFB that Texas will gladly pay him $5 million a year to lure him away from FSU?

I think the truth is somewhere in between, but no one can deny he inherited a train wreck from Bowden and within 4 years has FSU back in the national title game.

We lost more than Tebow, we lost about 34 seniors and 6 juniors in one year. But the patience we have for Will wasn't there for Meyer even though it would have been easier to rebuild with Meyer who's last class of recruits were ranked at the top.

Meyer wanted to leave, not rebuild.

Isn't that finally clear by now ?

Very good points. I agree, the answer at this point is somewhere in the middle.

Those who are implying he is only winning because of Winston need to take a look at this body of work. He went 12-2 last season and won a BCS bowl and conference championship. I think any of us would have taken that. And he did it with Winston on the bench.

Regarding Winston; Jimbo pulled Winston out of the state of Alabama! I'd say he's a pretty damn good recruiter as well.

He's had a couple of rough losses at FSU (NC State last year). But all coaches have those along the way. Spurrier lost to some medicocre Mississippi teams (Ole Miss and Miss State). Meyer lost at home to a very mediocre Ole Miss team (and still won a national championship).

I don't get the "Jimbo can't coach" comments. Also, U Texas certainly thinks he can coach....and they thought Muschamp could coach as well since they named him "coach in waiting".

Jimbo is in the NC game, has won 2 consecutive conference championships, is 3-1 vs. UF, has the possible Hiesman winner on his roster, his QB last year was a 1st round draft choice, replaced 6 assistants last year....but he can't coach??

Agreed. It's fun to hate on Jimbo and the ACC, but he's in the Top 10 of winningest active coaches.

Although I do think he's a better recruiter than he is a coach.

I won't say he can't coach, but I don't think he's an upper echelon coach. To my mind he is roughly the equivalent of Mark Richt, just with a far easier schedule.

So who would want to trade the Clown coach and his Famous QB, for ours ?

    Let me see the hands.
