Thats awesome. He could probably play a decent amount of minutes at some low level D1 college.. He does seem to know whats going on when he is on the court, even if he doesn't have the athletic ability to capitalize on it.

We could see him coaching one day if what Billy says is true about his Bball IQ.

Jacob is really smart and knows what to do on the court. So did Dan Werner. So why the love for one player and the hate for the other on this board? They are both Gators and in all kinds of weather ...

Jake the Snake didn't make mistake after mistake in key moments of games that were lost.

It is really quite simple Lurker.

Yeah we used to call Werner the ANCHOR.

Dude never met a team performance he coundn't drag down.

Those were some bad times for gator bball - the two yrs after the last natty.

But now. Hell this team has Final 4 potential for sure.

Werner gets a lot of hate, but in reality, he wasn't bad at all in his soph and junior seasons. His senior year was brutal, though.

The only difference is that Kurtz is a walk-on.

Fans love walk-ons because they know they aren't supposed to be that good so mistakes are just accepted. Werner was a scholarship player so they aren't as forgiving.

Yeah, I can't imagine what might have contributed to that.

Werner was a lot better player than you guys think.

And no doubt a lot better player than you guys are except in your dreams.

A few weeks ago he hit a bomb 20 feet over the fence in our intramural softball game.

Hence disproving in dramatic fashion the "he's not clutch" theory...

He's a good enough option off the bench that he probably should be seeing some time. Always in the right position--and that's gotten him points and rebounds when he's in.

With the suspensions that our team has had, he's probably going to see a lot of time in the early part of the season. Had a good game yesterday and I'm looking forward to seeing him in there.

Had to love his breakaway dunk on a great pass from Graham last night.

I recognize that Dan Werener had/has a lot of skills, an excellent court sense and was/is a fair to middlin passer. Werner was the only kid in his class to play on that 2006/07 Championship team.

Unfortunately, he was never able to make the transition from shooting High School 3-pointers (at which he was very good, although apparently using a somewhat smaller ball), to college 3pointer.

What bothered me about Werner was that if it was a close game, and he got an offensive rebound underneath, he would always miss the put back. One time he did that three times.

Admittedly, he was basically a 3 playing out of position at the 4, but, like I said, he couldn't hit the 3-pointer, so, he was neither a stretch 3 nor a stretch 4, and he lacked adequate quickness, footspeed, strength and agility to handle athletic opponents at either the 3 or the 4.

Apparently, however, he has good character, which counts for a lot in my book. But as a basketball player, I don't think he contributed a lot to the Gators.

Werner was a solid player that was a) put out of position, b) played on a couple teams with minimal talent which made him have to take a bigger role, and c) was murdered by the fans.

Dan Werner, whom many thought couldn't play worth a lick? He has a pretty successful career overseas. In Hungary he shot 40+% from 3PT and was named to the All-Star team. In the Ukraine he is shooting over 35%. So he certainly has some talent.

I always liked Werner and thought he brought a ton to the team, just not scoring.

Werner was ruined by a certain Gatorcountry "reporter" who pumped up the guy as the next Mike Miller. Once fans saw he was actually slow footed, couldn't jump, couldn't shoot and couldn't dribble, well people unleashed on the guy.

He also suffered because many, including me, though our backups were better and should have been playing but instead they transferred, none of those guys turned out to be very good anyway so maybe Billy did know best
