Does Lane Kiffin still have a great reputation amongst coaches?
As an X and O guy I think he does. Now as a personality that is a different story I think it matters on the person you ask.
Kiffin did have interest in the UF OC job but no way in hell could Muschamp makes that hire
One of the key factors IMHO to FSU dropping off (I believe it was after the 99 championship) had to do with their QBs. It seemed like for a long time, they always had a 2 or 3 year guy to plug in. Once there was no one with experience waiting, it went downhill. I also realize that their down-turn had a lot to do with an aging coach and improving conference (I can't believe I just typed that last part).
He went 3 for 17 in his last scrimmage so there might be a chance he doesn't win the starting job.
I agree that it's enough to make one want to gag to say that, but parity in the ACC did play a role I think. I personally believe without a doubt that parity was established because of the mass innovations in the internet, television, and social communication technology that allowed other programs to prevent big-time programs like fsu from sucking up all the talent pools for themselves.
With a easy means of reaching recruits via these means, other programs could also aggressively and equally attract a recruit's attention, so fsu wasn;t able to monopolize recruiting the way they used to.
That's what worries me.....
It wouldn't worry me the night of the game.....
Obviously, he has a great reputation with the greatest college coach in the nation today...
But it's true, particularly after 2003.
Poor QB play will hurt Alabama a great deal this season. Replacing 3 started on the Oline combined with the fact that the real strength of their O is in their skilled positions, specifically Cooper and Howard. If Alabama cannot get the ball to Cooper and Howard they will fnd the yards on the ground harder to come by and the frustration from Howard and Cooper and the fans will grow. If Saban knew who his QB was he would have named them by now. There is very little upside to stringing along a couple of 1st timers this late into their careers. I really see Alabama struggling this season within the conference. They'll start hot but after we beat them they will have some very difficult games against Auburn, LSU and aTM.
