I'm planning to fly into Jacksonville on Nov. 29 and stay until Dec 2. We will be making the trip to the swamp for the FSU game on the 30th. I'm wanting to book my flight, hotel, and rental car all at once via a travel site eg orbitz or expedia. I would prefer to be near the ocean but most of the ones I see in the package are resorts. Does anyone have any experiences with hotels or resorts? With it being November I'm not sure how the weather in Florida will be so take that into consideration.

I would not plan on the beach in Jax in Dec. I would fly into Orlando and find what you want there and drive up and back to the game or find a party bus to ride up and back from the game. Orlando should have much better airfare options and prices. Would check Tampa too. Not sure but Orlando gator club may run a bus for the ride. If the weather breaks nice, you can be at Daytona Beach fairly quickly. If you have two extra tickets, I could guarantee you a ride up and back..:ninja:

If you are set on basing in Jacksonville area, I would check rates in Ponte Vedra or St. Augustine area.

I was just enjoying the thought of waking up next to the ocean since it has been 20 years since I've been around one. I was pretty much sold on the courtyard Marriott at Jacksonville beach but I will definitely take other advice on different places.

Yep. I'm moving up there (from Tampa) by end of Sept. and was scouting locations last week and Jax beach is very Ghetto, IMO (I'm currently in Indian Shores, just south of Clearwater). Atlantic and Neptune, though seem okay. Obviously, Ponte Vedra is great and I'm also a big fan of Amelia, though a little far away.

Is there any place in particular you stayed in Ponte Vedra? The lodge and club would be my choice but I'm not sure if I want to stay at a resort. This is more of a get away from work and Texas R&R type trip.

If it's between Jax beach, PVB, or St. Augustine, you cannot go wrong with St. Augustine. Much more to do there as compared to the other two.

I would look into VRBO (Vacation Rental By Owner). They have some very nice properties at decent rates too. With most right on the ocean. Some are off the beaten path, and some are in the middle of the tourist areas.

And since it will be the FSU game, and that is at the end of November, St. Augustine will be decked out in their Christmas lights and decorations.

The one ocean hotel seems like my style. I don't know if it is just me but it seems that St. Augustine has the worst looking rooms of all three. Maybe it would be worthwhile to stay at atlantic beach and travel to see the lights one night?

IF you must stay in JAX area, Ponte Vedra Inn. Lodge at Ponte Vedra nice as well.

    Orlando smorlando.

You want beach in JAX, try the PVI and the Lodge

I have stayed in Ponte Vedra Inn and Club on the beach and it was very nice. May be a little pricey that time of the year, but first class for sure

Looks like St. Augustine is the overwhelming favorite. Being it will be December should I forget the beach and just stay somewhere like the golf renaissance as someone has mentioned?

Check this place out. I stayed there with my wife a couple of months ago. Great service with a good restaurant/bar and view of the Harbor. The shuttle will pick you up and take you to Old St Augustine if you want to check out the old city. The beach is close by . The cost is not bad at all and the service is great. Not a fancy place but laid back and clean.

if you're planning on doing mostly stuff in st augustine there's really no reason to stay all the way up in the world golf village.
