I've got a great business plan: convince 28-year olds to voluntarily give me $300 a month to cover their yearly medical bills over $12,000.

    It's brilliant.

It will only work if the 28-year olds are charged a minimum of 2.5% of their income is, for some reason, they opt not to sign up for your fantastic deal.

Wait, let me get this straight, $95 fine is 2.5% of their income? The 2.5% doesn't happen until 2016

What the first year fine for not having insurance is $95 or 1% of your income whichever is greater. And it is a line item on your 1040- plus there is a schedule on your tax forms that has to be used to prove you have health insurance - it is not just a box you check

Which is the basic business plan of all insurance. Cap your financial risk at x in exhange for y. It's even better when a third party is willing to pay or subsidize y.

That's why insurance was always a bad idea, at least in it's present form.

Well, I'm in the business so I definitely think insurance is a good idea, but I certainly encounter many people who don't see the value (until they make a claim that is).

    Even MORE brilliant.

Sit at home while having your income, food, insurance etc. all being paid for by someone else and all I have to do is vote for the right people to make sure it NEVER ends.

It's the reason healthcare costs are so high

Insurance the reason? Not really, in fact its a big reason a large number of people can still afford healthcare as it is. Also the reason that people who can afford it do buy it. At best, its a small part of the larger picture WRT healthcare costs.

Doctors overcharge because they know they'll be short paid. This has been the perpetual grind that has spun out of control. Of course there is Medicaid and Medicare which is even worse about payment.

In order for the who devious scheme to work, you've got to really ease the lemmings into the plan...

You start at a mere $95 per person per year (or 1% of income if greater)...

Then, you slowly build it up over three years when you smack with the 2.5% of income.

Insurance is totally and absolutely useless.............until you need it. Selling that need varies from person to person. I always found women to be more willing to listen than men.

So do you get a 8-10% cut off the top?

Before long, those sitting at home living off the sweat of others, will start bitching that they have to go to the trouble of voting .

Here's why it might work: "You can get much farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone." Al Capone, As quoted in Forbes (6 October 1986) The IRS is the gun. Welcome to Chicago.
