USA just beat Honduras today in the Gold Cup semis and we have been on a tear lately. It seems like USA is playing their best Soccer ever but is this fools gold, or are we actually good again (compared to the early 2000's)?

Fools gold, they're not that good and when they get put against top talent they will be destroyed

Its soccer. A game only slightly more boring than hockey and baseball. :)

Not to mention nearly no commercials or millions of timeouts. Don't get me wrong, I'll take football over soccer any day, but high level soccer like Brazil and a lot of the leagues in Europe are really entertaining to watch. If you judge soccer on MLS, college soccer or even (most of the time) USA soccer, you're doing yourself a disservice. Google Messi and watch how entertaining it can be.

I don't agree with this. The team is gelling.

They don't have the talent to run Klinsman's counter attack. Jürgen still has a few more Germans that have American fathers that he can pluck before they play for the Germans.

They have talent but no way will make it past the round of 16 in the world cup. Besides they haven't played anyone worth a damn besides Mexico and they were embarrased in the confederation cup.

it took an own goal and the German B squad for them to beat them.

Didn't we tie Mexico in Mexico a few months back for the first time ever (or in a very long time)?

Also, Mexico won the Olympics, was that luck? (Honest question)

The olympics are not what they use to be. it's about the Euro and World cup. Mexico looked terrible in the big tourney this summer, wait until Jürgen can get that American talent to play his style they will be deadly

I've been waiting for this for YEARS... I understand most of US top athletes play the top 3 sports, but do we have to look like amateur soccer players most of the time? I mean its like watching college soccer... pass, pass, kick the ball half way down the field for the other team to steal it, repeat. I never see triangle offense, I never see clever passing and team work like you see in Euro... You would think our coaches could teach this but we just look like amateurs most of the time. Lately, I've seen more of what you see in the Euro leagues but like you said, we need more talent.

On a side note, can you imagine how dominate we would be if all our best coaches and players exclusively played soccer? It would probably unfair to the rest of the world.

Klinsman is doing it the right way, unlike Arenas that caterred to certain cliques. He cleaned house and emphasized hard work and teamwork over star players. I have been very impressed with the results. Are we ever going to be on the same level as Germany or Spain? No! We can be very respectable though!

Our coaching from high school or even earlier to college totally sucks. Period, end of story! Been there, done that!

What I said assumes all our greatest coaches and players from the big 3 sports played soccer instead.

I think they are good, not winning it all good but still good. If Jozy can continue his hot streak we could be a scary team in the World Cup.

I know nothing about soccer but the US women seem to be competitive on the world stage, why can't the man get there?
