Both involved are idiots. The fan for having a nole sign anything Gator. Winston for forgetting that someone, other then the biased bunch from tally, actually wanted his autograph after everything.

The blame lies solely on the “Gator fan" why would anyone expect a rival player to not rub salt in the wound.

Meh.... so does he "rub salt in the wound" if it's a kid?

The reason I have an issue with it, and maybe I'm looking into it too much, is as an athlete it has to be one of the most gratifying things to have someone ask for an autograph; especially from a rival fan and especially after being accused of rape. Just seems to me better sportsmanship could've been shown.

It's not like he's asking peyton manning or some other established player. He asked a kid still in college and obviously still into the rivalry. If one of our guys did it to a nole it'd be hilarious. As a Gator fan esp decked out in full regalia would I ever hit up a rival student for an autograph and certainly not on my Gator gear.

I'm not sure it happens as often as you think; especially with the instate rival.

I just think it should've hit home a little more for Winston then any other player because of what he went through. However I see your point as well.

No I've put plenty of time in before and after games. Maybe I'm missing these autographs on rival teams apparel.

Tebow is transcendent for what he represents.

Winston represents accused rapists shielded by corrupt cops. Not exactly in the same ballpark.

Tebow wasn't a low-life rapist at a school that covers for him and indirectly condones it to win a title.

Good Lord! Raid wasn't comparing Tebow to Winston in terms of character. Just the fact that fans from other schools asked for his autograph and he gave it.

If you were out with a Gator hat and had the chance to get Peyton Manning's autograph, would you not do it? Maybe this guy didn't get it to sell. Maybe it was for his kid. You might not like him but Winston won the Heisman and outside of this site, the majority of people still like him.

How would it look if Winston, Tebow or Emmitt Smith refused to sign an autograph for a little kid from another school? I think sometimes people read too much into this kind of stuff.

Good Lord! He did compare Winston to Tebow by introducing Tebow as example of a player that rival fans ask for autographs from. In reality there are very few players that rival fans will do that with... and I've never seen that include accused rapists who were protected by the local police department.

Heismann or not, a line has clearly been crossed there.

I've got no problem with Winston signing the autograph... like you said, what's he gonna do?

My problem is with the Gator fan who went autograph hunting from a rival rapist.

Reminds me of a Clemson player named Flowers who raped a teammate's mom back around the early 80s. Rival fans didn't go ask for his autograph... they held up huge signs saying "Don't bring Flowers to Mom!".

BTW, Atlanta (and Raid)... I've got nothing against Raid. He's a good poster. I just don't think Tebow and Winston are an appropriate analogy on this issue.

I think little kids would have more common sense than this. My 5-year-old saw the picture and screamed "WHAT IS HE DOING?!?!?" at the guy holding the Gator gear for Winston to sign it.

And if it's for a child who is enough of a fan to warrant you going out of your way to have a rival sign something, then use the gear for that particular school, not the Gator gear.

I respectfully disagree. I think if Manziel had been out signing autographs after a game in the Swamp, there would be a ton of Gator fans waiting in line. That's going to happen with almost any superstar. Plus, most fans from other teams didn't seek Tebow's autograph because of his religious beliefs or what he stood for. At the time he was at UF, most rival fans just viewed him as a superstar player too. Like him or not Winston is a superstar who just won the Heisman and a national championship.

While I'm NOT a Winston fan by any means, I actually respect the fact that he makes himself available to the fans for autographs. There aren't a lot of superstar athletes who do that anymore.

The majority of sports fans outside of this site do not view Winston as a "rapist". They view him as just a guy who was accused but never charged. Many probably see him as the victim.

I think the people here, including myself, have our own beliefs about what kind of scumbag Winston truly is, but I don't think that opinion is shared as much by people who just watch ESPN.
