back in junior high soccer a team matte went up to head the ball and misjudged the trajectory of ball coming to him. Ball came in a couple of feet lower than he expected. He was in mid air as he jumped to head the ball, when the ball(line drive kick) nailed him square in the groin. He was one of the players who did not wear a cup. He landed on his back and was sucking wind for a few minutes while curled up in the fetal position. Coaches were concerned, players were rolling with laughter.
I played one year of HS football in the mid 60's where both were mandatory and never had a problem. But after that in my early twenties I played city league slow pitch softball, supposedly a non contact sport. In one game I was the first baseman and took a very hard hit line drive directly to the groin and of course, no cup. I think I would rather take my chances with a blow to the head than what I felt then. Forget toothaches, forget torn muscles, forget any kind of sprain, that was the worst pain I ever felt.
Cute as they are, any time you see something like this on the Internet you can pretty much guarantee that it's devoid of any factual information.
So it took 50 years, instead of 100. Point still taken.
