What do you know, the non-scandal scandal of targeting political groups for scrutiny was equal opportunity for both conservative and liberal groups

All started by a self-described Republican/Conservative at that..

You wanna know why they were being checked? Its because many of them actually are political groups trying to hide under the veil of being issues groups so they can hide who the money comes from.

Looks like the IRS was doing their job and found some shortcuts

    Outrage anyone :ninja:

or you predictably calling "bs" if it doesn't fit your preferred narrative

Tea Party, Occupy, Progressive groups were all singled out for scrutiny, and probably rightfully so

Issa got what he wanted though

From the link - thanks 108:

"Werfel ordered a halt in the use of spreadsheets listing the terms — called BOLO lists for ‘‘be on the lookout for— on June 12 and formalized their suspension with a June 20 written order, according to the IRS document the AP obtained. Investigators have previously said that the lists evolved over time as screeners found new names and phrases to help them identify groups to examine.

Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee released one of the lists, dated November 2010, that the IRS has provided to congressional investigators. That 16-page document, with many parts blacked out, shows that the terms ‘‘Progressive’’ and ‘‘Tea Party’’ were both on that list, as well as ‘‘Medical Marijuana,’’ ‘'occupied territory advocacy’’ and ‘‘Healthcare legislation.’’...

George’s report criticized the IRS for using ‘‘inappropriate criteria’’ to identify tea party and other conservative groups. It did not mention more liberal organizations, but in response to questions from lawmakers at congressional hearings, George said he had recently found other lists that raised concerns about other ‘‘political factors’’ he did not specify.

Democratic staff on Ways and Means said in a press release that they had verified that of the 298 groups seeking tax-exempt status that George’s audit had examined, some were liberal organizations — something George’s report did not mention..."

No wonder Issa doesn't want to release all the committee interview transcripts.

I believe they made this story up, that's what I believe. Besides do you really think we're dumb enough to believe that Obama's cronies are going to make it hard for their side to get money from banning the people that voted for him? Really?

    BS!

Well, if they're spying on and stealing from everybody equally, that makes it OK, right?

That makes it a case of bureaucrats taking short cuts to make their work easier, not a crusade by the administration to harm it's political enemies. The latter idea is the story Issa and now McConnel are selling and the former is what available evidence is showing, even before this latest news. The fact that Issa and McConnel know all this and in Issa's case is refusing to release committee evidence makes them now exposed dishonest manipulators, not statesmen worthy of their high office.

Does it say anywhere the # of groups targeted? Sure, they could have slowed down the apps for 1,500 applicants of Group A for up to a year; then, slowed down the apps for 20 applicants of Group B for a month. The headline would still be technically true - though very misleading.

    From the article:
Neither the IRS document obtained by the AP or the 15 IRS lists of terms addressed how many progressive groups received close scrutiny or how the agency treated their requests

So, all it says is "non-conservative groups were also reviewed" but says nothing about the breadth or depth of the scrutiny. 24 hour non-news cycle strikes again with another revelation of mostly meaninglessness.

We also know that approval rates were proportionate to total applications by type.

The original story of the IRS deception didn't come from an internal review, it came from a whistle blower.
