This is a nice touch in my view.
Good stuff, though it does seem a bit dicey in the sense that some will view this as the athletes being further exploited as pawns to sell tickets.
I am fully capable of ignoring Bilas and his tunnel vision on the NCAA. Ironically he is who retweeted this so I saw it.
That's how I see it.
This will not become a trend.
I am not sure what you mean?
He re-tweeted what? I am not on twitter, so I have no idea what Bilas said, tweeted, etc.
If you get a tweet you like, you can retweet it to others. So Bilas sent it out to others without a negative comment. I found that ironic given your reaction that SoCar was exploiting athlete even more with this and Bilas thinking he is THE defender of NCAA athletes.
I like this but agree about it feeling a bit weird like aka (or I guess Bilas too) mentioned. I liked it more when I heard Ryan Braun (OT, I know) was calling Brewers season ticket holders to apologize for all of his crap.
To me, this falls in the same category as many of the things college athletes end up doing for their school. Its common for them to have to help out with camps or other events. I've never been a season ticket holder, but I imagine a call from a player would make me feel more appreciated (especially at a school that probably struggles to get ticket buyers).
Gotcha. Though I'm not sure I feel they are being exploited more so than I think that could be a perception.
I don't know what my opinion is on it. I guess it depends on how the idea originated and if this is something they are being mandated to do, or something they are embracing. "They" being the players.
Right, I do not view this as exploiting the athletes more as much as letting the athletes and their fans have some contact in a controlled setting. My guess is that Bilas did not view this as exploiting either. I find it interesting that some here did see it that way.
FSU has been doing this for a few years I believe.
Well that changes my opinion entirely. This is obviously not a very effective campaign.
Ha! Yes this has me rethinking my view too.
Yeah but, they only have a handful of calls to make.
I was wondering if they have enough season ticket holders to account for everyone on the team.
To get the entire team involved, some season ticket holders have to get called twice.
