    Great read, thanks for posting.

This is different than what was previously reported:

"He’s heading to Florida soon, and head coach Will Muschamp and offensive coordinator Brent Pease have told the Grier family not to ‘expect’ to redshirt, that he should be mentality ready from the get go. It’s not a promise of a starting job, obviously, but it shows that the coaching staff knows that its quarterbacks—Jeff Driskel and Tyler Murphy, recruiting holdovers from the Urban Meyer era—struggle at times and that injuries have been an issue."

A few weeks ago, I think, Grier said he was definitely going to be redshirted...

I thought he said he was going to EE and still redshirt too.

He doesn't decide if he redshirts. Muschamp does. If Muschamp changes his mind, his redshirt is off

Kid seems like he has a good head on his shoulders. I'm excited to see what he can do this spring.

he just doesn't need to be pressured based off what Winston is doing....JW redshirted and clearly he benefited from that

I think a year learning the system (whatever system that may be) and then he's the man in 2015 with KT, Drob, Fulwood, Cook, Lane....hopefully a TE and we'll be right back where we want to be

JW meteoric rise at FSU has caused UF fans to want "that" offense next week

Maybe he can even pull a Spurrier and kick a field goal in a pinch.

Why would he want to redshirt if Muschamp needs him to play? There isn't a freshman on the planet who wants to redshirt. It's something you have to accept if it happens to you.

Yes, lets get all these great recruits that champ and staff are bringing in, only to fire everyone and let said recruits start over with more coaches. Sounds perfectly logical to me.

Unless true freshmen Grier is gonna beat out both RS Junior JD and RS SR Murphy and become starter he has to redshirt. WM will have to win the SEC East in 2014 and I doubt he will want to pin his hopes with a true freshmen unless Grier is a rare freshmen phenom, but even the freshmen QB phenoms like Winston, Bradford, and Manziel were all RS freshmen not true freshmen. I really hope we don't waste a year of his unless he is starting.

Chris Leak is the only example of a true freshman coming in and immediately bringing more to the position than the current quarterbacks on the roster that I personally can think of.

A redshirt year or year as a backup is very beneficial for freshman qbs. With a redshirt senior and redshirt junior on the roster, I can't think of a good reason for burning Grier's redshirt his first year.

People seem to have a very hard time understanding that Winston is not a freshman. He is a sophomore in his second year in the system. The term Redshirt Freshman is a term of art which describes how many years of eligibility he has. It would in fact probably be more descriptive if people in his position were called red shirt sophomores, RsJR, RsSR denoting a person in that specific class who has an extra year of eligibility remaining. Then maybe folks wouldn't get confused.

Actually, up until the time Ingle Martin got hurt against Miami, a game in which he was playing lights out, and then had a bad carryover into the UT game, Chris Leak was not the starting QB, and in fact was not an upgrade. Just saying. By the way, Ingle is still playng professional football.

I would put him on scout team so he can get reps against our first team D and get used to the speed of the game.

I don't think Ingle Martin is playing professional football today.
