I'm impressed with Willie Taggart at South Florida.

At the beginning of the year South Florida looked completely inept. Last night they took on a Houston team with a very productive offense and opportunistic defense and played them pretty even. I looked at the offensive stats after the game, and they sounded like our stats: 364 total yards, 38:37 time of possession, yet they put up 23 points (it should have been 30 points) with a true freshman quarterback. You could say their system was broke coming into this year, but Willie has really turned things around.

Way too early to make any assessment. They basically played them as well as Rice, Temple and Memphis did.

They stink, if you want to support the guy that's great...but wait until they are not an embarrassment

    Absolutely.

Hometown guy, brought them their only success, was fired in the wake of the Leach stuff for something amazingly overblown.

You can not say 'sounded like our stats' and say they are turning things around. Unless the direction is down.

Yep. That was the only shot at continual success for USF

I should have said "sounded like our stats BEFORE LSU (240 yards) and Missouri (151 yards)."

Leavitt did a good job building the program but he was not taking them anywhere. 6-7straight years of losing 3-5 games a season and, if I recall correctly, never finishing top 2 in an incredibly weak conference. You have to give him a ton of credit for building the foundation and making that program legit pretty quickly but seems like he had hit a wall. But then again, Greg Schiano got an NFL head coaching job for doing less.

he'll get fired in a couple of years--maybe UF can pick him up as assistant coach if he knows offense

Well he might have hit a wall but then the wall completely fell on top of Skip Holtz and now Taggart.

I miss Leavitt melting down on the sidelines in televised USF games.
