Recruits don't care at all about a coach's contract. It doesn't affect recruiting. If you have 4-5 years left on your contract and you end up with 6 losses you are gonna be on the hot seat anyways so that will affect recruiting. Also no matter how many years are left on contract everyone knows you can get fired way before the contract ends as we saw with Weis and ND. The only one who would benefit from this would be WM who would earn more money for being fired. It would be like basically handing him free bonus money for no reason.

If anything, if Foley extended Muschamp after this terrible season gatornation including bull gators would riot.

I think the proverbial "vote of confidence" from the AD is sufficient.

Problem is "Votes of confidence" are laughed off by the media.

What if he loses a heartbreaker to Georgia, who runs the table and wins the MNC next year, while he finishes the year 12-1? Still gonna can him?

Now THAT would be a precedent setter...

You can negotiate a lesser payout. There are semantics that can be controlled.

We are showing need and recruits do like that, but only if they know who the coach is going to be.

A two year extension, since we can afford WM, won't hurt us a bit no matter what, and it does in fact give recruits the stability they need to commit.

We used Bobby's last dance on them, and it is common to add time to a contract to add stability.

Hell, Meyer won us two titles and is undefeated up north and we still have fans that think the guy can't coach. As someone who has never yelled boom once on these threads, it is time for the bandwagon fans to shut up and let us take care of business.

I'll be the first to admit I defended Muschamp vehemently, but after the LSU loss, I could see the writing on the wall. Then the Mizzou melt-down happened and I lost a LOT of faith in the man as a HBC.

I don't think he's a "bad" coach per-say, but at this time of his young career, he's in over his head to an extent.

But after some retrospect, I can see giving him 2014 to prove his systems and personnel are working, but the wholesale meltdowns on the offensive side of the ball need to stop, and personally... we need to beat either UGA or fsu this year.

Personally, losing to either repeatedly activates my retch reflex, but I'd have to say fsu coming into our stadium and beating us badly would be utterly inexcusable. I could understand a competitive loss (10 - 11 points), but if we ended up getting outright routed by 25 - 30 points on our home field, well, I would probably be one of those leading the vengeance mob. lol

No f-ing excuse for that, none, no matter how good fsu looks, with our talent level... getting embarrassed on our home field by anyone is out of the question with me when it comes to retaining him another year.

But right now, beating UGA is prime imperative. Somehow, out of sheer, outright luck, we're back in the SEC East race. I don't really know how, but this team has to stop fracturing and start coming together.

Our staff blew it at Mizzou with that horribly coached and prepared ballgame, and 3 losses is what I expect total for this season too. It's time to win out or not lose more than one more game.

It's time to get this back on the right track. With some big wins over the rest of our SEC opponents at least. It's not out of the realm of possibility with the defensive potential we have.

    ^^^^ Masochist ^^^^^

Lane Kiffin got a vote of confidence earlier in the season from Pat Haden. Heck, Brent Pease already has one from Will Muschamp.

After the Zook fiasco, I don't understand why Foley went with someone with zero head coaching experience. I may never understand it. It cost us 3 years as of today.

I've always thought the regime change would take time to be successful. I thought last year's record was in part due to a lot of luck, so it was better than I expected it to be. This year I thought we would be better, but that was before we lost our starting RT and a potential starter at guard (Dunker) and before I knew Halapio would miss all of camp, a few games and still be playing with a major injury. That was before I knew our starting QB and RB would miss most of camp AND then be lost for the year. It was before I knew we would lose the best player on the defensive line.

You can quote offense stats all day long, but they are apples and oranges. I want to give coach time to continue his great recruiting (Taylor, Hargeaves, Robinson, etc etc this year, and Grier, Lane, Cook, etc etc next year).

We are on the right track. There have been problems that have been hard to overcome.

Let's support our team and coach.

Everything happens for a reason. What if we had a marginally better coach than Zook that was never fired (see Mark Richt)? We may not have gotten Urban Meyer and 2 MNCs.
