Agony of defeat last night for Kyle Larson. Leading the 55 lap Chili Bowl until his engine expired on lap 41. Looks like he will have to settle for a Daytona 500 trophy this year. This midget race event is 4 full days with about 350 cars. 66 of them flipped in action this week.

Only been to Ocala a couple times. Usually go to see winged sprints 1 or 2 nights at Volusia. I grew up with those in Ohio in the 70s. Worked at New Smyrna during what I call the golden era of the World Series of Asphalt in the 80s - 90s. Then I worked w/ Nascar and traveled a little bit. A couple years ago I started flagging corners with SCCA & IMSA. I try to see it all from the roar before the 24 thru the 12 Hours of Sebring. 2 full months of races.

Speed, this weekend is my favorite type of racing and has been for many years. I have been to many 24's and Sebring 12 hour races. Alas I can no longer physically make it to the races, but TV coverage is better than ever. T0 give some idea of how long I have been a fan, I was there in 65 when the Sebring race became a submarine race or in 69 when Mark Donohue won the 24 in a Lola T70. The following photo is of the Cobra pit during the 65 rain storm at Sebring.

I missed a lot of Sebring 12Hrs by working or playing thru Bikeweek. You have some great memories there. I've never seen that particular '65 flood photo. Gatornationals were always the same weekend as Sebring & Bikeweek.

I snapped some phone pics this evening.

Rolex 24 was fun. I flagged turn 3 for a couple of 4 hour stints. Sat evening was flawless. Sunday morning I had a car slow towards me on fire, but he went around the turn to the emergency vehicles staging position. Car was roasted, retired from the race. The other moment I had was the lovely Katherine Legge getting knocked off track and sliding all the way thru the infield, signs, and across the turn apex, almost getting hit driver side by the same car.
I sort of rolled my ankle in a hole and Sunday night after the race I thought I was going to die. Monday I got a pair of crutches, still can't put weight on foot.

17th to 1st Thurs. @ Ocala. Last night was rubbered up and a one lane track.

This Florida man was in the local paper and racer.com I'm happy to call him a friend since being introduced 5 yrs ago or more.
Michael raises $ for charity with effort and dedication. He also runs the Rolex24 5k to fund raise for Camp Boggy Creek while at the race. His road signs are one of a kind originals every year. I can't think of anything else signed by EVERY driver.

Last night at Volusia, Donny Schatz started 12th and raced to victory in 30 laps. He beat some big names like Kyle Larson, Dave Blaney, Kasey Kahne, and Tony Stewart.

This Sat is the beach parade of cars that raced from 1948-1958 on this sand. Have lunch after the parade and enjoy great stories with Chocolate Myers and other racing legends.
