Vanderbilt would have the no. 1 seed with the best overall conference W-L record. LSU would be seeded no. 2 as the Western Division champion. The rest of the teams (top 12 make the tournament) are seeded according to SEC record. Note that finishing among the top four teams is huge as the other teams play in an elimination game on Tuesday. Arkansas looks safe to make the cut, with 3 home games against Tennessee followed by 3 games at Auburn. The fourth spot is up for grabs.

SEC announces changes to annual baseball tournament

    01. Vanderbilt (21-2)
    02. LSU (19-5)
    03. Arkansas (15-8)
    04. South Carolina (13-10)*
    ------------------------------------
    05. Mississippi State (13-11)
    06. Florida (12-12)%
    07. Ole Miss (12-12)
    08. Alabama (11-12)
    09. Texas A&M (10-13)
    10. Kentucky (10-14)
    11. Auburn (9-15)
    12. Missouri (7-17)
    ------------------------------------
(out of the tournament at this time)
    Tennessee (6-16)
    Georgia (5-16)

*The Sunday rainout vs. Vanderbilt may have saved fourth place for the Gamecocks for now, but they finish the season with 3 games at Mississippi State. Games lost to rainouts could affect the seeding of several teams. Do you think other SEC teams will consider artificial turf in the next year or two?
%Florida won two of three games against Ole Miss.

    Tuesday SEC Tournament Games

    Bracket 1
Auburn (11) vs. Florida (6) ... winner to face Arkansas (3)
Kentucky (10) vs. Ole Miss (7) ... winner to face LSU (2)

    Bracket 2
    Texas A&M (9) vs. Alabama (8) ... winner to face Vanderbilt (1)
Missouri (12) vs. Mississippi State (5) ... winner to face South Carolina (4)

The two brackets will hold double-elimination play Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The two undefeated teams after Thursday's play have Friday off as the field is narrowed to four teams. The bracket crossover that the SEC employed prior to 2012 is not being used under the current format. The remaining teams from each bracket square off on Saturday in a single-elimination format, with the winners playing for the SEC Tournament Championship on Sunday.

Here is a link to the SEC Tournament format with the Thursday games sorted according to bracket rather than by the order in which they are to be played.

I'm not a fan of the tournaments either....but they are a revenue source for the schools/conferences. Kind of a necessary evil I suppose.
And they can provide some good baseball. The potential is there for great matchups. I don't think it is true that "most coaches throw guys that have not pitched" either. They will certainly not burn guys up, and the deeper you go into the tourney (and closer to NCAA games) the deeper into the staff you will go. But if a guy is healthy he will generally be pitching in the tourney.
Last year UF started Crawford, Randall, Johnson, and Whitson (Johnson threw a complete game). Larson, Paco, and Maddox each had 2 appearances in the other 3 games. That is hardly throwing guys that don't pitch. And looking at the other teams, they used front line guys as well.

Lets just hope we take care of business these last six games so we do not need to advance far into the tourney to get in.

Beyond $s, they give a middle of the road conference team a shot at the NCAAs and possible hosting opportunity.

Agree 100% I feel the same about basketball tourneys, & fball Chmp. Gms to a lesser extent.

And this format is awful. No reason for 12 teams to start with. Make it 10 teams, give division winners a bye, standard double elimination.

Ive always hated the round robin format the ACC uses(& couple others) but Id prefer that over what the SEC is doing this year.

I heard or read somewhere there is a proposal to change the NCAA tournament to a best of 3 series each round until Omaha. Basically seeded like the basketball tourney. #1 host #16 for 3 game series & so on.. It would extend the season by 1 week...or.. get rid of conf tourneys??
