We will stand by Israel. I don't have any use for us getting embroiled in another conflict in that part of the world but if push comes to shove we will back the Israelis.

Get off the keyboard and spend time with your family. If any of these things happen you'll be glad you took this advice.

But being realistic, no one is nuking anybody. So maybe this isn't wasted time after all.

FTR, I typed this up at 4:03 after the family was in bed. Don't hate!

Keeping sanctions in place and even increasing them is not chomping at the bit for war. It is the most practical way to prevent it

What end did 9/11 serve? You keep making false assumption that you are dealing with a rational opposition

A plausible choice that isn't on the OPs list is that Iran stops short of achieving a fully developed nuclear weapon status. Instead, it follows through with its deal to curb its ambitions of procuring a fully developed nuclear weapon and instead chooses to improve its relationship with the rest of the world. After all, the vast majority of Iranians are in favor of these negotiations and are eager to see that normal relations are restored. The one caveat to this scenario becoming a reality is the bellicose stances by both the Iranian and American hardliners. Hopefully, the neocons won't have their way like they did before the Iraq War.

Here's a NYT opinion on the situation:

And you consider that equivalent to Iran attacking, and possibly nuking, Israel? Come on, you are better than that.

Exactly, chompy. One thing that we keep hearing is that Iran is [pick a short length of time] from having a nuke. And we've heard this for years.

Maybe we should take it down to the basic concepts here --

    Q. What will Iran do with a nuclear weapon/s.

    A. Use them. Duh. Whether that is as an actual detonation or not quickly becomes beside the point when you realize their other value, the strategic, diplomatic, and economic leverage it provides to be a nuclear state.

The leftist pretense here seems to be that not only might not Iran bother to get any value out of a nuclear arsenal after acquiring one, but that it is just entirely ineffectual to our interests even if they did. Lunacy, sheer lunacy, of course. I mean, they want it for a reason, right? And it isn't so that the world will be a safer and more prosperous place for America, which is our only legitimate foreign policy objective?

An answer is only as good as the question being asked...

First of all you don't have to be a "leftist" to disagree with war as a continuous means to an end. To break it down into a simplified left vs right issue does little to promote dialogue on these kind of issues while locking everything into some dichotomous approach whereby you are either "for us, or against us."

As far as using them is concerned there is only one nation on earth that both possesses nukes and has used them. There is no real reason to believe Iran is going to develop a nuke and then start tossing them around.

Or, in this case, as good as the person giving the answer.

So, I guess that personal attack/insult thing is pretty much out the window now, huh?

No, actual detonation vs having it for leverage would not become besides the point. Having one would actually be a catastrophe for them, period. It would lead to war for which they would be crushed.

You see everything is a personal attack if it is directed at you Dave. There is a report button if you would like to use it.

Oh, so this wasn't directed at me?

I answer. You say my answer wasn't good enough. I respond by criticizing the question (not the person asking the question, mind you)... You respond by insulting me, personally.

No, why should I take offense?
