Does Driskell's injury/redshirt affect QB recruiting?
Good question, but from what I'm hearing about Grier he's not afraid of competition.
He will have to apply for a medical redshirt.
Left knee right ankle will bring a different player back limited mobility.
Sad he had such great talent.
Well, in spite of Strange's strange yet oh so thorough explanation, I decided to look into our QB situation a bit more.
Had no idea we have 8 QBs.
Jeff Driskell JR
Tyler Murphy RJR
Christian Provancha RJR
Ryan McGriff RSO
Skyler Mornhinweg RFR
Jacob Guy RFR
Max Staver FR
Chris Wilkes FR
If Driskell redshirts, I believe he'd have 2 more years (RJR and RSR). Would make next years QB competition VERY interesting (Murphy with a years worth of starts under his belt in his RSR year, Driskell with a years worth of starts in his RJR year, Staver as a SO and Grier as a true freshman). Can't see any other QB recruits wanting to take on that group. Have to believe only Grier will sign.
First, Staver is redshirting, so he will be a RS FR in 2014, not a SO.
Second, Grier plans to redshirt in 2014 and is very solid commit to the Gators, so NO it does not have any impact on QB recruiting.
Third - Provancha, Guy & Wilkes are all walk-ons, but they are all accomplished HS QBs and Wilkes is our very own Weinke in that he is a 23 year old former pro baseball player. That maturity goes a long way.
I feel a WHOLE lot better about the QB situation, than I did about 9 days ago. Thank God Tyler stuck it out.
