    What a great POS.

    This cesspool has to stop.

White House spokesman Jay Carney says the Treasury office that handles sanctions had to furlough nearly its entire staff. He says the office can't sustain its core functions.

Carney says that includes new sanctions on Iran, Syria, terrorist groups and drug cartels. The office also investigates and penalizes sanctions violators.

It's a partial shutdown and he is picking and choosing what to furlough. YES I do want to shut it all down and start over but you can still have sanctions on.

That's not how government shut-downs work. Sanctions do not reacquire reworking of details that were already hammer-out before the government shut-down. This a national security issue that is not part of the shutdown.

The sanctions need to be lifted and they will be in the next talks.

I don't understand. If these people are going to be paid why are they being sent home?

So if not government, who enforces them? The sanctions are still on.

Why do they need to be lifted?

    I did not say that.

But complaining about parts of the government shutting down while cheering on the shutdown of the government seems pretty silly.

Not necessarily. Aren't certain parts of the government more expensive, necessary, or significant than others? Isn't it pretty logical to cheer the shutting down of things someone may deem as unnecessary as silly and to find fault with the shutting down of things you would find essential?

Well I was specifically talking about people who said "shut it all down" and / or "and keep it shut" in the last weeks.

Beyond that, it's the proverbial "not in my back yard."

Since there is almost no doubt that his eventual deal with Iran will be to lift a lot of sanctions in exchange for empty promises, seems like this is just skipping a step.
